DRAMATURGIC COCKPIT AND SCENE OVERVIEW OF THE MAN WITHOUT A NAME
Introduction for Dungeon Masters
The Man Without A Name is built as a flexible, player-driven narrative. Most scenes are not mandatory — they are dramaturgic potentials: places the story *might* go depending on curiosity, mistakes, alliances, or improvisation.
Only a few scenes are core to the main plot. Everything else is optional, branching, or reactive to player choices.
Experienced DMs may wish to replace, expand, or redesign scenes entirely. That is perfectly fine — the adventure has been written so you can plug in your own material. However, it is strongly recommended to retain the core NPCs and their motivations, since they provide the structural tension that keeps the story coherent.
Use this page as your cockpit: a navigation layer, a structural overview, and a guide to how all scenes can interconnect.
The Stages of the Adventure
The Man Without A Name unfolds in three distinct adventure stages, each with its own tone, challenges, and gameplay focus. These stages act as a high-level dramaturgic map and serve as labels for the Scene and NPC overview tables below.
Stage I — The Road to Firetown (Travel · Exposure · Rising Tension)
This stage covers everything from the OfSO briefing, preparation in New Kourou, and the dangerous journey across frozen plains and the Ralar Region. Here, the PCs learn two things: the Dark Side is unforgiving, and nothing about the Nameless Man’s story is simple. Ambushes, and moral dilemmas shape their mindset before they even reach Firetown. This stage establishes tone, stakes, and the first hints of the mission’s true difficulty.
Stage II — Firetown & The Mission (Social Web · Investigation · Extraction)
Firetown is a settlement of neon, frost, suspicion, and secrets — an intricate social web full of gamblers, hustlers, Cartel agents, and shady power brokers. Here, every choice has a price, and every conversation can be a step forward or a trap. The PCs must gather information, survive shifting alliances, and navigate the tense heart of Firetown: the Local Guarding Trooper Station. This stage includes multiple branching paths to the extraction — legal, covert, social, or violent.
Stage III — Escape & Return (Pursuit · Survival · Consequences)*
Once the Nameless Man is freed, Firetown turns hostile. Guarding Trooper patrols intensify, settlers start bargaining with information, and the Burning Wall becomes a bottleneck you either slip through or crash against. Beyond Firetown, the frozen wilderness and Outlaws remain a threat—especially to a fragile escapee.
