GUARDING BOTS
Guarding Bots were specialized Service Bots developed to support law enforcement aboard the Last Frontier. Originally created before the ship's departure from Earth, their development was later fine-tuned with the support of the Guarding Troopers — the exohuman protective and enforcement force active during the Alpha and Beta Ages.
These robotic units combined high-grade surveillance technology with physical enforcement capabilities, assisting Guarding Troopers in patrolling corridors, monitoring secure zones, and managing public order. After the crash landing on VOI 700 D, Guarding Bots continued to play a vital role alongside the Guarding Troopers, especially in administrative and military buildings of the Free State of Settlers. Their eventual ban in the Gamma Age under the Peace Treaty marked the end of their official use — but not their presence.
History and Development
The Last Frontier Era
- Developed by Olympia Cybernetics in cooperation with the Security Division of the Last Frontier.
- Designed for corridor patrols, surveillance of restricted areas, and immediate threat response aboard the ship.
- Integrated with the GAIA System for remote command and monitoring.
- Equipped with 360° camera systems, facial recognition software, and machine learning algorithms to identify anomalies and assess threat levels.
- Authorized models were outfitted with non-lethal tools; high-level units had access to firearms, stored in locked internal compartments.
The Beta Age: Civil Reassignment and Tactical Deployment
- Widely used for entrance control and as security guards in key buildings of the Free State of Settlers.
- Deployed to protect political, scientific, and infrastructure hubs during the unstable early years of settlement.
- Heavily modified during the Great War for combat purposes—some units received advanced armor plating and upgraded targeting systems.
- Guarding Bots became common in Police operations of the Guarding Troopers, checkpoints, and prisoner transport scenarios.
The Gamma Age: Prohibition and Rogue Use
- Banned in 2631 under Supreme Councilor Aisha Patel’s Peace Treaty reforms due to their offensive capabilities and power consumption.
- Deactivation campaigns were initiated, but many units were either stolen, salvaged, or reprogrammed by Individualists and Outlaws.
- Firetown's underworld and remote settlements still utilize rogue Guarding Bots for protection, intimidation, or illegal enforcement.
Appearance and Features
- Height & Build: Taller and bulkier than Butler Bots — typically 2.1 meters with a reinforced alloy chassis.
- Head Unit: Sensor dome housing 360° camera array, facial recognition lenses, and thermal optics.
- Armor Plating: Matte black or dark grey finish, capable of withstanding light firearms and shrapnel.
- Optional Equipment: Retractable arms for non-lethal takedown, concealed firearm compartments (if enabled), magnetic handcuffs, and built-in loudspeakers for crowd control.
Voice and AI Capabilities:
- Emotion-neutral voice modulation for clear commands.
- Threat assessment vocalizer to communicate intent (“Halt. You are in a restricted area.”).
- Multilingual interface and built-in interrogation protocols for interaction with suspects or intruders.
Surveillance and Enforcement Features
- Face Recognition: Matches individuals against criminal or restricted lists in milliseconds.
- 360° Area Surveillance: Operates with full spatial awareness, capable of monitoring all surroundings in real time.
- Movement Classification: Detects, analyzes, and categorizes movement patterns to predict hostile behavior.
- Auto-Deescalation Protocols: Trained to first engage non-lethally unless authorized or attacked.
- Apprehension Subroutines: Disarm and arrest capabilities with physical restraint mechanisms.
Energy Supply and Power Management
Powered by a high-capacity Quantum Fusion Battery (QFB), optimized for energy-intensive tasks.
Standard operation span: 6 days under patrol or monitoring mode.
Combat engagement and firearm deployment reduce operational time by up to 60%.
Standby mode activates at 5% battery—unit locks down and disables all weapons.
Recharging outside of official channels is illegal—rogue units rely on hacked stations or portable generators in outlaw zones.
