MANUAL LABOR BOTS
Overview
Manual Labor Bots were heavy-duty robotic units designed for physically demanding tasks aboard the Last Frontier and later repurposed for infrastructure and industrial work on VOI 700 D. Unlike their humanoid Service Bot counterparts, these bots prioritized strength, durability, and task efficiency over human-like interaction.
After the crash landing, Manual Labor Bots were instrumental in early settlement construction, resource extraction, and heavy lifting. During the Beta Age, they were widely used in agriculture, mining, and logistics. However, following the Great War, the Federal Confederation banned all Service Bots, including Manual Labor Bots, due to their high energy consumption under the Peace Treaty’s sustainability policies.
Today, few Manual Labor Bots remain operational in the Gamma Age, either illegally maintained in Firetown or salvaged for black-market modifications by radical Individualists and Outlaw factions.
History and Development
The Last Frontier Era
- Developed by Olympia Cybernetics, Manual Labor Bots were designed for heavy-duty maintenance, cargo handling, and structural repairs aboard the Last Frontier.
- Unlike humanoid Service Bots, these models were quadrupedal, hexapodal, or tracked, optimized for strength and stability.
- Equipped with multi-tool manipulators, they could lift and transport heavy loads, operate industrial tools, and perform shipboard maintenance.
- Their AI module (GAIA-AUX Heavy Task Protocols) prioritized efficiency, task completion, and environmental adaptability over social interaction.
The Beta Age: Expansion and Industrial Usage
- Post-crash, surviving Manual Labor Bots played a critical role in building settlements and extracting resources.
- The New Kourou Robotics Syndicate maintained and distributed them, adapting them for planetary conditions.
- Used extensively in mining operations, construction, and logistics, these bots helped establish a functioning supply chain across exohuman settlements.
The Gamma Age: Prohibition and Black Market Repurposing
- After the Great War, Manual Labor Bots were banned under the Peace Treaty, deemed too energy-intensive for the restricted human economy.
- Federal confiscation efforts led to the deactivation of most units, but some were hidden, modified, or salvaged for illegal operations.
- In Firetown, radical Individualists and outlaw groups have repurposed old models, upgrading them with unregulated power sources, makeshift weaponry, or combat modifications.
Appearance and Features
Design and Structure
Unlike humanoid Service Bots, Manual Labor Bots were task-specific machines with varied designs:
- Quadrupedal Models: Used for terrain stability and heavy-load transportation.
- Hexapodal Variants: Employed in mining and hazardous environments for their enhanced balance and grip.
- Tracked Models: Optimized for construction, demolition, and high-torque mechanical tasks.
Durability & Materials
- Frame: Reinforced Titanium-Polymer Alloy for impact resistance.
- External Shell: Heat-resistant Duraflex Armor Plating (self-repairing to a limited degree).
- Hydraulic Systems: High-pressure servos for strength and lifting capacity.
Tool Systems
- Multi-tool Manipulator Arms: Interchangeable tool attachments for welding, drilling, cutting, and lifting.
- Integrated Cargo Lifts: Used in warehouse storage and transport.
- Excavation Modules: Some models were fitted with drilling or scooping appendages.
Energy Supply and Power Management
Quantum Fusion Battery (QFB) System
- Standard Load: Operates for 10 days under normal workloads.
- Heavy Load (Construction, Mining): Battery life is reduced to 5 days due to increased energy demands.
- Emergency Mode: Low-power conservation mode when battery levels drop below 10%.
Illegal Power Sources in the Gamma Age
With recharging outlawed, outlaw factions modify old Manual Labor Bots with:
- Salvaged Power Cells from confiscated machinery.
- Illegal Firetown Charging Stations, operated by black-market tech dealers.
- Hybrid Generators, using stolen geothermal energy sources.
Technical Specifications for Gameplay
- Armor Class (AC): 15 (Heavy Duraflex plating)
- Hit Points (HP): 100 (Built for endurance and damage resistance)
- Speed: 25 feet (Tracked models), 35 feet (Quadrupedal/Hexapodal models)
Actions
- Heavy Lift (Utility): Can lift and transport up to 500kg, assisting in construction or resource extraction.
- Power Strike (Melee Attack): 1d12 bludgeoning damage, used for self-defense or demolition.
- Drill Arm (Melee Attack): 1d8 piercing damage, effective against reinforced structures or enemies.
- Crush Grip (Grapple): Can immobilize a target with its hydraulic claw appendages. Strength Save (DC 15) required to break free.
Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
Beta Age: Potential Storylines and Encounters
- Industrial Collapse: Players must reactivate an abandoned Manual Labor Bot to assist a collapsing mining operation before settlers are trapped.
- Sabotage Mission: A faction steals a prototype bot with enhanced capabilities—players must retrieve it before it falls into the wrong hands.
- AI Malfunction: A faulty GAIA-AUX module causes a rogue bot to continue building non-existent infrastructure, disrupting a settlement.
Gamma Age: Potential Storylines and Encounters
- Outlaw Repurposing: A heavily modified Manual Labor Bot is now a makeshift war machine, deployed by the Jane Mendoza Gang.
- Black Market Auction: Players may be hired to smuggle, bid for, or sabotage an illegal Firetown bot auction.
- Underground Factory: A radical Individualist group is attempting to reactivate a hidden stockpile of confiscated bots, reigniting conflict with the Federal Confederation.
- Weaponized Manual Labor Bots: An Outlaw faction has converted an old construction bot into a siege weapon. Players must disable or hijack it before it attacks a civilian target.
