AGRICULTURAL BOTS

Agricultural Bots were specialized farming and land management machines used to sustain human settlements on VOI 700 D. Unlike Service Bots like Butler Bots or Medical Bots, they were not humanoid in design, instead featuring a quadrupedal or hexapodal chassis optimized for rough terrain, precision planting, and automated harvesting.

Initially developed to assist in hydroponic farming aboard the Last Frontier, Agricultural Bots were later repurposed for open-field agriculture after the settlers crash-landed on VOI 700 D. Throughout the Beta Age, they became vital to food production, helping maintain the fragile ecosystem of human settlements.

Following the Great War, the Federal Confederation banned Agricultural Bots under the Peace Treaty’s sustainability regulations, citing their high energy consumption and self-repairing capabilities as excessive resource expenditures.

History and Development

The Last Frontier Era

  • Originally developed by Olympia Cybernetics for automated hydroponic farming aboard the Last Frontier.
  • Designed to monitor plant health, adjust environmental conditions, and optimize food production for long-term space travel.
  • Built with multi-tool arms, allowing for precision planting, irrigation, and nutrient management.

The Beta Age: Expansion into Open-Field Agriculture

  • After the crash on VOI 700 D, Agricultural Bots were repurposed for planetary farming.
  • Their modular toolsets were adapted to handle local soil conditions, adjusting for nutrient shortages and new environmental factors.
  • The New Kourou Robotics Syndicate maintained and distributed these bots, offering subscription-based access to settlers.
  • Increased production: An additional 80 bots were constructed using scavenged ship parts and limited nanotechnology, ensuring sustainable farming operations.

The Gamma Age: Prohibition and Recycling

  • In 2631, the Federal Confederation banned Agricultural Bots, citing their excessive energy consumption and self-maintenance capabilities as violations of the Peace Treaty.
  • Many were decommissioned or repurposed for other uses, though some were stolen or hidden by settlers who refused to comply.

Design and Features

1. Mobility & Frame

  • Quadrupedal or Hexapodal Chassis: Designed for stability on rough terrain, allowing bots to work efficiently in farmland, rocky soil, or harsh weather conditions.
  • Crawler Mode: Some models use tank-like treads to assist with soil plowing and field navigation.
  • Height-Adjustable Core: Can raise or lower its central body, adapting to different tasks such as spraying crops or harvesting low-growing plants.

2. Modular Farming Arms & Tool Attachments

Agricultural Bots possess multiple retractable arms, interchangeable based on task needs:

  • Seeding Nozzles: For precision planting using GAIA-optimized growth algorithms.
  • Automated Harvesters: Configurable tools for cutting, pulling, or collecting crops.
  • Multi-Sprayer System: Deploys nutrients, pesticides, or water with minimal waste.
  • Soil Augers & Plows: Integrated tools for tilling soil and analyzing nutrient levels.

3. Sensor & AI Systems

  • 360° Optical Array: A multi-lens sensor suite allows for real-time analysis of crop health, environmental conditions, and potential threats.
  • Soil Scanners: Detects moisture, nutrient imbalances, and signs of disease, transmitting data to human farmers or automated systems.
  • Swarm Coordination AI: Agricultural Bots can work in teams, communicating via GAIA-AUX protocols to maximize efficiency.

4. Durability & Environmental Adaptation

  • Reinforced Alloy Shell: Resistant to dust storms, extreme heat, and acidic soil conditions.
  • Self-Repairing Components: Some models can use minerals in the soil to patch minor structural damage.

Energy Supply and Power Management

  • Powered by Quantum Fusion Batteries (QFBs), optimized for long-duration fieldwork.
  • Standard Load: 10 days of continuous operation in low-energy mode (monitoring, scanning, minor tasks).
  • Heavy Load (harvesting, plowing, or repairing) drains energy twice as fast, lasting only 5 days.
  • Emergency Mode: If power drops below 10%, the bot enters low-power conservation mode, reducing non-essential functions.

Technical Specifications for Gameplay

  • Armor Class (AC): 14 (reinforced frame for outdoor conditions)
  • Hit Points (HP): 90
  • Speed: 40 feet (hexapodal mode) / 20 feet (crawler mode)
  • Primary Role: Farming, soil management, crop health monitoring, environmental adaptation.

Actions:

  • Precision Seeding | Effect: Rapidly plants a crop field in half the time of manual labor.
  • Automated Harvest | Damage: 1d6 slashing (if used defensively) | Effect: Efficiently cuts and collects plants.
  • Spray Deployment | Effect: Releases nutrients, pesticides, or water over a 30-ft radius.
  • Soil Scan | Effect: Analyzes a 10-ft section of soil, detecting pH levels, moisture, and contamination.
  • Self-Repair (Limited) | Effect: Uses trace minerals to restore 10 HP per day in an operational field.
