FOGWOOD SAWMILL INC.
Overview
- Location: Fogwood Sawmill Headquarters, Industrial Ring, Morningstar
- Address: NW Industrial Ring Rd 1
- Founding Year: September 2625
- Founder: Hanata Ito, timber visionary
Fogwood Sawmill Inc. opened its gates months before Morningstar’s official founding, carving its name into the Atrana foothills as the settlement’s very first enterprise. Backed by preferential logging rights secured through the Trade Guild of New Kourou, Fogwood enjoyed an effective monopoly on timber harvest until 2630. Its aggressive felling of the surrounding hardwood forests generated the bulk of the Free State of Settlers’ building materials — and the ire of the nomadic Honga Tribe, whose ancestral cycle traversed those same woodlands.
Following the Peace Treaty and the birth of the Federal Confederation in 2632, all private wood production was nationalized as the Federal Wood Plant. Hanata Ito’s bid to become its first director was rebuffed — his Beta Age logging tactics deemed too destructive — prompting his departure to Firetown and subsequent entry into the new Individualist Party.
History
Founding and Monopoly (2625–2629)
Hanata Ito leveraged his Trade Guild connections to block competing licenses, securing exclusive harvest rights that underwrote Fogwood’s rapid expansion. The mill processed hundreds of hectares of second-growth hardwoods annually, supplying settlers’ cabins, federal outposts, and the emergent lumber trade networks.
Honga Conflict & War Prelude (2628–2631)
By 2628, Honga protests over deforestation escalated into pitched clashes at logging camps. As tensions mounted across the Asari Region, Fogwood’s clear-cutting practices were cited among the catalysts of the Great War’s outbreak in 2629.
Nationalization & Aftermath (2632)
In 2632, the newly formed Federal Allotment Agency subsumed Fogwood into the Federal Wood Plant. Hanata Ito, passed over for leadership, relocated to Firetown as an Individualist Party politician, campaigning for local autonomy and private enterprise rights.
