FISHERPOINT
- Type: Site (abandoned construction area; never a completed settlement)
- Location: Lake Orlanda, Asari Region
Overview
Fisherpoint (colloquially “Fishertown” among crews) was a provisional Exohuman construction area on the northern shore of Lake Orlanda in the Habitual Belt on VOI 700 D. Conceived shortly after Arla Town became the first functioning Exohuman fishing hub on Lake Arla, Fisherpoint was intended as the second hub in a planned lake-to-lake supply network. Unlike Arla Town, Fisherpoint never matured into a real settlement: it remained a work camp of prefab sheds, half-built docks, and machinery — financed and pushed by the Trade Guild of New Kourou to rapidly exploit Lake Orlanda’s sealife under the HSP.
Escalating tensions with the Orlanda Tribe halted construction. Within months, the site was overrun and destroyed — erasing the Trade Guild’s short-lived venture.
Facts and Figures
- Established: 2627 (Beta Age); dismantled/destroyed 2628
- Purpose: Rapid extraction/processing of Lake Orlanda biota; staging point for regional expansion
- Status: Never completed; destroyed two months before the Great War
- On-site population (peak): ~90 contractors, laborers, and minimal protection detail
Cultural and Strategic Notes
- Network Intent: Built to mirror and support Arla Town (first fishing hub) with a second node on Lake Orlanda.
- Trade Guild Control: Entirely financed, staffed, and provisioned through the Trade Guild of New Kourou—profit-driven and schedule-compressed.
- Local Opposition: The Orlanda viewed the project as desecration of sacred waters, intensifying conflict.
Look and Feel
Beta Age (2627–2628)
Not a town — a construction yard: pallet stacks, crane gantries, temporary gantries over half-sunk pilings, canvas rack lines for test-drying catches, and tool sheds hammered together from prefab panels. Nets and hose lines sprawled across gravel berms; generator hum and saw rasp mixed with skimmer calls from the lake. Manual labor Bots clanked as they hauled timber beams and prefab panels into place, while small Courier Drones zipped between dock sections, ferrying messages and light supplies. Maintenance Bots scuttled or hovered near machinery, oiling winches and clearing silt from gear housings. A flimsy palisade fenced equipment rather than people — the machines kept the site running, but their presence only highlighted how little of Fisherpoint ever felt like a lived-in town.
Gamma Age (post-2631)
Time and violence wiped the slate: collapsed pilings, twisted davits, rust-choked winches, shredded netting snagged on reeds. Charred kit crates lie half-buried in silt. Forest edge and tall reedbeds have reclaimed the berms; only scattered metal teeth of machinery hint at Exohuman intent.
History / Legacy
- Rising clashes culminated in the Battle of Fisherpoint two months before the Great War: roughly 1,000 Orlanda warriors overran the ~90-person camp, whose defenders fielded only Windstrike rifles and the laser weapons of two Guarding Troopers. The Orlanda lost ~250; nearly all Exohumans were killed or captured. The site’s destruction became a catalyst for wider alignment with the Alliance of Native Tribes and a symbol of the perils of extractive overreach.
Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
Use Fisherpoint as a pressure-cooker prologue (Beta Age) or a haunting ruin (Gamma Age):
- Beta Age — “Hold the Line, Then Leave”: PCs contend with supply delays, Trade Guild quotas, and nonnegotiable sacred boundaries. Is de-escalation possible—or is evacuation the only ethical route?
- Gamma Age — “What Remains of a Plan”: Artifact recovery amid reeds and collapsed pilings; evidence of hurried abandonment and a brief, brutal last stand. Political minefield: any trespass requires explicit authorization.
