DARON CREST’S DOCKHOUSE

Overview

Daron Crest, a young fisherman in his late twenties, balanced fishing with operating a ferry service. His fast skiff made him well-known in Arla Town, not only for his catches but also as a transporter: he ferried passengers and small cargo upriver toward Hope (a journey of 2–3 days), and across Lake Arla to the opposite banks for expeditions, hunts, and surveys. His fish catch was routed entirely through the Arla Town Market and bulk sales to the Funkenberg Fishfactory. He never sold directly to customers.

The dockhouse was destroyed during the Great War, when the Alliance of Native Tribes raided and burned down Arla Town as a whole.

Look and Feel

Crest’s dockhouse smelled of tar and wet wood rather than fish. In the perpetual twilight of the Habitual Belt, lanterns reflected on the dark river like wavering stars. Benches lined the walls, often filled with travelers or explorers preparing for a long upriver journey to Hope or a brief crossing to the wild, uninhabited banks of Lake Arla. His skiff *River Runner* was always moored nearby, its hull slick with river spray — a lifeline for those needing speed and discretion.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

Crest’s ferry service made him an invaluable connector: he linked Arla Town to Hope while offering explorers passage into untamed lands. His services could aid PCs on long-distance travel or entangle them in smuggling schemes along the river.

Adventure Hook Example

* **The Vanished Cargo** – A crate shipped with Crest never arrives at the Funkenberg Fishfactory. PCs must determine if it was stolen during a Hope-bound journey, swapped during a Lake Arla crossing, or hidden deliberately by Crest himself.
