THE WESTERN NORTHERN MIDBELT SECTION (YEDARI)
Overview
Yedari, the Western Section of the North Midbelt Sections of the Habitual Belt on VOI 700 D, is an almost entirely unknown region that has only been traversed once by Exohumans. Located directly opposite Nivari on the other side of the globe, Yedari is part of the Twin-Section Hypothesis, which has been scientifically confirmed through the Exohuman exploration of Zilari — the Western Equatorial Section. This hypothesis states that each region of the Habitual Belt has a twin counterpart on the other side of the planet, sharing identical climatic conditions due to VOI 700 D’s tidal lock.
Because Yedari has only been crossed once by an Exohuman expedition during the Beta Age, its landscapes, ecosystems, and native cultures remain largely unstudied. This journey, known as the “Westward Passage Expedition” (2626-2628), was conducted as part of an effort to traverse the Western Habitual Belt and confirm the Twin-Section Hypothesis. However, it was a march-through exploration, meaning that no in-depth studies were conducted, and Exohumans only documented brief encounters along the route.
Based on Exohuman interviews with Native tribes, scientists expect that Yedari's flora, fauna, and tribal structures are similar to those of Nivari—with regional variations and species unique to its ecosystem.
Despite the assumed similarities, the Exohuman expedition did confirm at least one major difference: the existence of a massive mountain range, unknown in Nivari, which the Native Tribes call “Yedari.” This is the only named landmark that Exohumans recorded, but they never explored it directly.
Since no permanent Exohuman settlements exist and the Peace Treaty restrictions prevent further exploration, Yedari remains largely undocumented. The few Exohumans who have encountered its people and landscapes know it only as a place glimpsed in passing—never truly explored, leaving many aspects of its geography and culture unknown.
Geography and Landscapes
Most of what is known about Yedari comes from:
- The Twin-Section Hypothesis – which suggests that Yedari should have similar landscapes to Nivari.
- The Exohuman Expedition Log (Beta Age, 2626-2628) – which briefly recorded some geographical observations during their westward journey.
- Interviews with Native Tribes – conducted during the expedition, hinting at additional undiscovered features.
Confirmed Geographic Features
- The Yedari Mountain – A massive, uncharted mountain observed by the expedition but never explored. Native sources claim it is a sacred place, but details remain unknown.
- Extensive Grasslands & Steppes – Like Nivari, Yedari’s terrain consists of vast open plains, likely home to large herbivores.
- Forested Regions – The Berani Tribe described dense forests in certain areas, similar to the Zilvani Forests of Nivari.
- Rivers & Lakes – The expedition reported large water sources, though it is unclear whether they correspond exactly to Nivari’s Orivan River and Lake Vandari.
- Possible Wetlands – Some Native accounts mention marshy terrain, though this has not been verified.
Flora
Since no direct botanical studies have been conducted, scientists assume Yedari’s plant life resembles that of Nivari. However, Native accounts suggest:
- Forest Variability – Some parts of Yedari may have denser tree coverage than expected.
- Unique Mountain Vegetation – The Yedari Mountain may support plant life unlike anything found in Nivari due to its elevation and soil composition.
- Steppe & Wetland Variations – Certain areas might have different dominant grass species compared to their twin section.
Fauna
As only a few specimens were randomly collected, most of the knowledge about Yedari’s wildlife is theoretical, based on scientific assumptions and Native descriptions.
Expected Fauna (Based on the Twin-Section Hypothesis)
- Grazing Mammals – Large, herd-based creatures roam the steppes and highlands, forming the foundation of native hunting and predator food chains.
- Aerial Predators – Raptors dominate the skies over the grasslands and forests, using heightened vision and agile flight patterns to track prey.
- Non-Predatory Birds – A wide variety of songbirds, migratory species, and waterfowl inhabit forests, wetlands, and grasslands. Some species exhibit highly specialized beak structures for feeding on particular plant species or insect populations.
- Stealthy Hunters – Feline-like predators lurk in the dense woodlands, relying on camouflage and ambush tactics to hunt small to mid-sized mammals and birds.
- Reptiles and Cold-Blooded Species – Various snake, lizard, and amphibian species inhabit the forests, wetlands, and rocky highlands. Some snakes are venomous ambush predators, while others are constrictors feeding on small mammals and birds.
- Aquatic Species – Rivers and lakes sustain a variety of fish, amphibians, and semi-aquatic predators adapted to cool, temperate waters. Some species are capable of brief land excursions, suggesting evolutionary adaptations for both aquatic and terrestrial survival.
- Insects and Invertebrates – Pollinators, burrowing species, and scavengers play a crucial role in forest and wetland ecosystems. Some possess reflective or light-diffusing carapaces, likely an adaptation to twilight conditions.

Native Descriptions of Unique Creatures
- Dazurah (“The Silent One”) – The Nalvar Tribe spoke of a stealthy hunter in the foothills of Yedari. It is solitary and is said to “move without sound.”
- Maruun (“The Vanishing Herd”) – The Berani Tribe described a grazing species that can “disappear before the eyes”, suggesting adaptive camouflage or evasive movement tactics.
Population
Unlike Nivari, where multiple large tribes were identified, Exohumans only encountered two known tribes in Yedari during their westward journey.
Key Discoveries from Interviews with Native Tribes
- Language – The Berani and Nalvar Tribes spoke a dialect of Shang Telu, the common language of all known Native Tribes encountered by Exohumans.
- Common Creation Myth with Nivari Tribes – The Berani and Nalvar Tribes shared identical beliefs with tribes from Asari and Nivari regarding their origins, the Shan-Ri, and the Sacred Journey of the First People.
- No Knowledge of Asari, Nivari, or Twin-Sections – Despite having the same traditions, myths, and beliefs, the Natives did not recognize other tribes or any twin-section concept.
- More Sedentary Tribes Exist – Interviews hinted at four sedentary tribes, but their locations remain unclear.
Known Native Tribes in Yedari
- BERANI (Nomads):
- Population: ~55,000
- Short Description: The Berani are wanderers, moving between grasslands and forests. They rely on hunting and gathering, feeding on both flora and fauna rather than domesticating animals.
- More Information: The Berani
- NALVAR (Nomads):
- Population: ~45,000
- Short Description: The Nalvar are expert hunters, traversing the rugged foothills of Yedari. They are renowned for their stealth and are often hired by other tribes to track elusive prey. Their oral storytelling tradition preserves the legends of their people.
- More Information: The Nalvar
Until further direct exploration is permitted due to the Peace Treaty, the identities and locations of other tribes remain unknown.
Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
Yedari remains largely unexplored, with the Westward Passage Expedition (2626–2628) being the only recorded attempt by Exohumans to traverse the region. This single journey provided only a brief, surface-level understanding of Yedari’s geography, wildlife, and Native cultures. Unlike its twin region, Nivari, which has been studied in detail, Yedari remains a land of mystery, where much of its ecosystem and history are still unknown.
As with Zedari, Dungeon Masters have the freedom to use the Twin Section Hypothesis as a baseline when developing adventures in Yedari. This hypothesis suggests that Yedari should share similar climatic conditions, landscapes, and tribal structures with Nivari. However, it is not a perfect mirror, and variations — whether due to geological anomalies, cultural divergences, or evolutionary adaptations — may exist.
When introducing these differences, it is recommended to stay within the established lore of 102 Lightyears Away from Home. The Sci-Fi Western genre emphasizes themes of frontier survival, lost knowledge, and the clash between explorers and the unknown, making Yedari an ideal setting for expeditions, encounters with isolated Native Tribes, and the discovery of long-buried secrets.
Beta Age (2625–2631) – The Era of the Westward Passage Expedition
During the Beta Age, Exohumans crossed Yedari once—but they never stayed long enough to fully document what they found. The Westward Passage Expedition (2626–2628) was primarily focused on reaching the Western Equatorial Section, meaning Yedari was merely a stop along the way.
- “The Forbidden Mountain” – The Yedari Mountain, briefly observed by the Westward Passage Expedition, was recorded as a sacred site by Native informants. However, its true significance remains unknown. Some Native tribes in neighboring regions whisper of a great power hidden within—whether this is spiritual, technological, or something far older is for the Dungeon Master to decide.
Gamma Age (2631–Present) – The Forbidden Land
Following the Peace Treaty (2631-Present), Exohuman access to Yedari has been strictly prohibited, leaving the region a blank spot on every official map. Yet, rumors persist that not all Exohumans follow the rules of the Treaty — some might have chosen to disappear into the unknown.
- “The Map Without a Cartographer” – A crude, hand-drawn map of Yedari appears in the black market of an Exohuman settlement. It depicts landmarks that no one has ever officially documented. Who created it? If no Exohumans have been there since the expedition, then who—or what—is charting the region?
