Major Planetary Zones | (Twin) Sections of the Habitual Belt

SOUTH MIDBELT SECTIONS EAST AND WEST (REVARI AND ZEDARI)

Overview

The South Midbelt Sections are Twin Sections in the Habitual Belt of VOI 700 D. They are located south of the Equatorial Sections and north of the South Pole Section, which are their neighboring sections.

Like other sections of the Habitual Belt, the South Midbelt Sections remain largely unexplored by Exohumans, but there is a stark contrast in the level of exploration between the Eastern Section (Revari) and the Western Section (Zedari).

  • Zedari (Western South Midbelt Section) – Terra Incognita: Zedari is the least understood of all regions within the Habitual Belt. As the Westward Passage Expedition ended in the Equatorial Section, no Exohuman explorer has ever set foot in Zedari, making it Terra Incognita. All current knowledge about its climate, geography, and ecosystem is based purely on the Twin-Section Hypothesis, which posits that Zedari should have similar environmental conditions to its twin region, Revari. However, without any direct observation, these assumptions remain speculative.
  • Revari (Eastern South Midbelt Section) – Partially Explored: Revari, in contrast, has seen limited Exohuman exploration. While most Beta Age expeditions prioritized the Asari Region, three extensive Revari Expeditions were conducted between 2627 and 2629, mapping sections of the region and briefly interacting with some Native Tribes. However, despite these efforts, much of Revari remains unmapped and poorly understood, with vast stretches of its forests, grasslands, and valleys left unstudied.

Since the beginning of the Gamma Age, further Exohuman movement in Revari has been halted by the Peace Treaty, ensuring that both Revari and Zedari remain regions of mystery, their full histories, cultures, and ecosystems still waiting to be uncovered.

Climatic and Geographical Features

Although situated closer to the frigid South Pole Section, the South Midbelt Sections benefit from the Habitual Belt’s stable twilight conditions, resulting in a temperate climate. Temperatures typically range between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius, though they drop significantly at higher elevations and along coastal regions facing the Dark Side.

Due to the Twin-Section Hypothesis, scientists assume that Revari and Zedari share similar climatic conditions, but only Revari has been partially mapped during three expeditions between 2627 and 2629.

Revari (Eastern South Midbelt Section) – Documented Landscapes

Explorers who ventured into Revari described a diverse terrain, with:

  • Rolling Grasslands and Steppes – Wide, open plains supporting large herds of native wildlife.
  • Dense Forests – Particularly in the northern and central regions, featuring towering evergreens and deciduous trees.
  • Scattered Lakes and Rivers – Vital water sources that support both Native settlements and ecosystems.
  • Southern Highlands – Rugged, wind-swept plateaus transitioning into the South Pole Section, where temperatures begin to drop significantly.

However, despite these observations, much of Revari remains unexplored, with vast stretches of terrain still undocumented.

Zedari (Western South Midbelt Section) – Uncharted Territory

Zedari, on the other hand, is Terra Incognita, with no recorded Exohuman exploration. Everything known about Zedari is based purely on the Twin Section Hypothesis, meaning scientists assume its terrain mirrors Revari’s, but there is no proof. The accuracy of these assumptions remains unverified. If the hypothesis holds true, Zedari may feature:

  • Similar Forest and Steppe Ecosystems – With varying degrees of density depending on wind patterns.
  • Lakes and Rivers – Providing essential water sources, though their exact locations and sizes remain unknown.
  • Unidentified Geographical Features – Since no expedition has reached Zedari, it is possible that undiscovered mountain ranges, valleys, or geological anomalies exist.

Flora

The South Midbelt Sections support a diverse range of plant species, shaped by their temperate climate, seasonal variations, and varying elevations. While Revari has been partially studied through three Beta Age expeditions (2627–2629), Zedari remains completely uncharted, and its plant life is purely speculative based on the Twin-Section Hypothesis.

Revari (Partially Explored) – Documented Plant Species

Expeditions into Revari have identified a number of native plant species with significant ecological and cultural roles:

  • Varo Grass – A tall, drought-resistant grass dominant in the steppes, used by Native tribes for weaving textiles and thatching roofs.
  • Javiran Oak – A slow-growing, resilient tree found in the mixed woodlands, known for its dense, water-resistant wood favored by Jiran woodworkers.
  • Myrik Fern – Thriving in the wetlands and marshes, this fast-spreading plant plays a crucial role in water purification and traditional medicine.
  • Kelura Vine – A flowering vine that climbs tree canopies, its red blossoms are used by the Veltani Tribe in sacred rituals.
  • Drashti Moss – Found in highland regions, this hardy moss can store water for long periods and is used as a moisture-retaining insulation material.

These plant species contribute to the rich biodiversity of Revari, sustaining both wildlife and Native civilizations.

Zedari (Unknown, Based on the Twin-Section Hypothesis)

Since Zedari has never been explored by Exohumans, its flora remains entirely speculative. However, due to its climatic twin relationship with Revari, scientists hypothesize that similar plant species may exist, albeit with potential variations:

  • Grasslands may feature an alternative species to Varo Grass, possibly adapted to stronger winds or different soil compositions.
  • Woodlands could contain denser or taller tree species due to possible differences in moisture distribution.
  • Wetlands and riverbanks may host unique aquatic plants, serving as undiscovered medicinal resources.
  • Highland zones may contain cold-resistant flora, potentially evolving differently due to unknown atmospheric conditions near the Southern Pole.

Fauna

The wildlife of the South Midbelt Sections is adapted to temperate conditions, thriving in forests, grasslands, and river ecosystems. While Revari has been partially studied through three Beta Age expeditions (2627–2629), Zedari remains unexplored, and its fauna is entirely unknown beyond speculation based on the Twin-Section Hypothesis.

Revari (Partially Explored) – Documented Species

Expeditions into Revari have provided limited but valuable insight into the region's wildlife. Several key species have been confirmed through direct observation:

  • Grazing Mammals – Large, herd-based creatures roam the steppes and highlands, forming the foundation of native hunting and predator food chains.
  • Aerial Predators – Raptors dominate the skies over the grasslands and forests, using heightened vision and agile flight patterns to track prey.
  • Non-Predatory Birds – A wide variety of songbirds, migratory species, and waterfowl inhabit forests, wetlands, and grasslands. Some species exhibit highly specialized beak structures for feeding on particular plant species or insect populations.
  • Stealthy Hunters – Feline-like predators lurk in the dense woodlands, relying on camouflage and ambush tactics to hunt small to mid-sized mammals and birds.
  • Reptiles and Cold-Blooded Species – Various snake, lizard, and amphibian species inhabit the forests, wetlands, and rocky highlands. Some snakes are venomous ambush predators, while others are constrictors feeding on small mammals and birds.
  • Aquatic Species – Rivers and lakes sustain a variety of fish, amphibians, and semi-aquatic predators adapted to cool, temperate waters. Some species are capable of brief land excursions, suggesting evolutionary adaptations for both aquatic and terrestrial survival.
  • Insects and Invertebrates – Pollinators, burrowing species, and scavengers play a crucial role in forest and wetland ecosystems. Some possess reflective or light-diffusing carapaces, likely an adaptation to twilight conditions.

The combination of grasslands, forests, and freshwater sources creates a balanced ecosystem that supports both herbivores and predators.

Zedari (Unknown, Based on the Twin-Section Hypothesis)

Since Zedari remains completely unexplored by Exohumans, its fauna is entirely hypothetical. However, due to its climatic twin relationship with Revari, scientists expect the presence of similar species, though with potential adaptations to local environmental differences:

  • Herd animals may differ in size or migratory patterns due to potential variations in predator distribution.
  • Raptor species could have different flight patterns or larger wingspans due to changes in wind conditions.
  • Forest predators might have camouflage adaptations better suited for denser, unknown woodlands.
  • Aquatic creatures may have evolved differently if Zedari’s river systems have distinct mineral compositions or unique seasonal patterns.

Cultural and Population Overview

The South Midbelt Sections are estimated to be home to approximately 2.25 million Natives, making up 15% of the total Native population on VOI 700 D. However, these numbers remain rough estimates based on limited Exohuman research.

Observations from expeditions in Revari have revealed a recurring pattern among Native Tribes:

  • The tribes of the Eastern Section (Revari) share the same creation stories and core beliefs as other documented Native societies across VOI 700 D.
  • They speak Shang Telu, the common indigenous language, though with distinct regional dialects.
  • Despite this linguistic and cultural connection, most tribes have no awareness of other tribes beyond their immediate surroundings.

While Exohuman researchers have gathered this information through limited tribal interactions in Revari, the existence and structure of tribes in Zedari remain completely unknown due to the lack of expeditions in the Western South Midbelt Section.

The largest known tribes in Revari:

Through three extensive Exohuman expeditions (2627–2629), researchers were able to document five major tribes in Revari. These tribes have distinct cultures and subsistence strategies, ranging from agriculture and fishing to nomadic herding and forest-based craftsmanship.

  • VELTANI (Sedentary):
  • Population: Approximately 80,000
  • Short Description: The Veltani have settled along the fertile banks of the Revari River. They practice advanced agriculture, cultivating grains and tubers in terraced fields that minimize soil erosion. The Veltani are known for their communal granaries, which store food to ensure no member of their tribe goes hungry, even during lean periods.
  • More Information: The Veltani
  • MELTARA (Nomads):
  • Population: Approximately 70,000
  • Short Description: The Meltara roam the expansive grasslands of Revari, herding a unique breed of semi-domesticated Hoos used for both transportation and sustenance. The Meltara have a deep connection to their animals, viewing them as spiritual companions.
  • More Information: The Meltara
  • JIRAN (Sedentary):
  • Population: Approximately 50,000
  • Short Description: The Jiran live in the forested foothills of the southern mountains, relying on sustainable logging (they are planting new trees for every one they cut down) and fruit cultivation. They are also skilled woodworkers, crafting intricate tools and ornaments.
  • More Information: The Jiran
  • LANORA (Semi-Nomadic):
  • Population: Approximately 30,000
  • Short Description: The Lanora are renowned for their fermented beverages, made from grains and fruits, which are highly sought after by neighboring tribes. They alternate between farming in the fertile lowlands and grazing livestock in the upland meadows. Their semi-nomadic lifestyle ensures access to diverse resources year-round.
  • More Information: The Lanora
  • TYVONA (Sedentary):
  • Population: Approximately 30,000
  • Short Description: The Tyvona have settled in the swampy wetlands near the edge of the southern midbelt. They cultivate water plants have an intricate system of canals and floating gardens, showcasing their ingenuity in adapting to challenging environments.
  • More Information: The Tyvona

Native Tribes of Zedari (Unexplored – Theoretical, Based on Twin-Section Hypothesis)

Unlike Revari, Zedari (Western South Midbelt Section) remains entirely unexplored by Exohumans. There have been no recorded expeditions, no direct observations, and no interactions with any Native inhabitants.

Due to the Twin-Section Hypothesis, scientists speculate that Zedari shares climatic similarities with Revari, meaning it is likely inhabited by Native Tribes. However, no factual data exists regarding their culture, population size, or way of life.

Key Considerations Regarding Zedari’s Native Population:

  • The Twin-Section Hypothesis suggests tribal structures similar to those found in Revari may exist, but this is purely theoretical.
  • The terrain of Zedari may have shaped different survival strategies, leading to variations in tribal organization, settlement patterns, and resource use.
  • It is possible that Zedari tribes share the same creation story, myths and beliefs like the observed tribes on VOI 700 and also speak Shang Telu. Despite it is very likely that they have never had contact with other tribes of the Habitual Belt due to natural barriers or territorial isolation.

Any assumptions made about specific tribes, customs, or population figures in Zedari remain pure speculation.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

Beta Age (2625–2631) – The Era of Exploration and Unrest

During the Beta Age, Exohumans sought to expand their knowledge of Revari and Zedari, but harsh conditions, tribal resistance, and limited resources hindered their efforts.

  • “The Forgotten Scouts” – In the Beta Age, an Exohuman expedition sent to map Zedari’s terrain has gone missing. Players must determine whether they succumbed to natural dangers or were taken by Natives.
  • “The Root of Serenity” – A growing number of Exohuman settlers suffer from Homesickness for the Familiar, a mental condition causing extreme nostalgia and loss of motivation. The Lanora Tribe in Revari is rumored to possess a plant-based remedy that could ease the symptoms. Players must locate the tribe, gain their trust, and secure the cure — while navigating potential conflicts over its use and ownership.

Gamma Age (starting 2631) – The Era of Isolation and Secret Struggles

By the Gamma Age, Exohuman movement in Revari and Zedari is strictly limited by the Peace Treaty.

  • “The Unwanted Settlers” – A group of Exohuman Outlaws has defied the Peace Treaty and settled in Revari. Their actions — raiding Native tribes, hunting sacred animals, and trespassing on forbidden lands — have escalated tensions. Players must remove the Outlaws …
  • “The Quantum Battery Negotiation” – Rumors suggest that a Native Tribe in Revari possesses a large cache of Quantum Fusion Batteries, possibly salvaged from an expedition after the crash landing of the Last Frontier. With Exohuman settlements struggling with energy shortages, the Native Supervisor grants permission for a Federal Courier Service delegation to negotiate for the batteries. The players must navigate delicate tribal politics, uncover the truth behind the rumors, and determine what price the Natives demand in return.
