THE FEDERAL FOOD PLANT FARMLAND (FFPF)
Overview
- Location: Hope Region, Habitual Belt
- Address: Farmland adjacent to the Federal Hoo Breeding and Training Station as well as the Federal Veyra Breeding and Training Station (permitted corridors to town center)
- Extent: ≈1,000 ha (merged from ~21 nationalized farms/ranches, 2632)
- Oversight: Managed by the Federal Food Plant under the Federal Allotment Agency; rotations computed by GAIA
The FFPF is the consolidated agricultural estate supplying grains, roots, fruits, greens, and seasoning crops to the Federal Confederation. Private holdings were nationalized in 2632 with the introduction of Communardism and merged into a single, quota-driven landscape. Beta Age fieldwork used bots (Agricultural/Manual Labor/Maintenance; Seed Drones); in the Gamma Age all labor is performed by exohumans.
Primary cultivation blocks:
Microplots for
Harvest moves by Hoo-drawn carts to the Federal Mills Facility and onward to the Federal Kitchen/Allotment Centers as Weekly Food Baskets.
Architectural Significance
A low-energy agrarian landscape with modest service buildings, barns, and field shelters suited to perpetual twilight.
- Materials: Field barns in local stone with timber trusses; plank-sided sheds; tiled or thatched roofs; stone culverts and sluice gates.
- Lighting (No Electric High-Bays): Clerestories, skylight slats, and light wells in barns; after-hours, hooded oil lamps and baseboard Luminofera dualis runs. Ambient twilight suffices outdoors; no floodlights.
- Ventilation & Acoustics: Open slat walls and ridge vents; quiet, wind-baffled yards; straw baffles to reduce clatter.
- Energy Use: Hand tools, treadle threshers, hand-crank winnowers; small water-lift wheels for irrigation heads; no powered high-bays or electric dryers.
Building Structure
Fields & Rotational Blocks
- Grain Blocks (Lunor/Zelor/Rizon/Helik): Strip rotations with fallow and green-manure bands.
- Roots & Greens (Bilax/Mirel): Raised beds with shade trellises; hand irrigation spurs.
- Orchard Rows & Berry Hedges (Tandora/Nulberry): Windbreak lines and pick lanes.
- Herb & Spice Microplots (Virel/Tanish/Qular/Zanix): Dosed rows with isolation strips for purity.
Barns & Work Sheds
- Field Barns (×4): Tool racks, pallet bays, hand-crank winnowers; sack staging.
- Drying Sheds: Slatted lofts for grain sheaves and herb/spice bundles.
- Cold Store Cellar: Stone-cooled pit for Bilax and perishables.
- Weighbridge Gate: Cart scale, lot-ticket desk, seal press.
Staff Houses & Amenities
- Crew House (East): Breakroom benches, ledger table, kettle stove.
- Crew House (West): Bunks for rotating crews; drying lines.
- Wash & Restrooms: AuroraSan stalls, wash-basins at both houses.
Water & Movement
- Irrigation Spurs & Sluices: Manual gates; bermed channels.
- Cart Tracks (Permitted Corridors): Wayposts to mills and town depots; patrol pull-outs.
- Cart Yard: Hitch rails for Hoo teams; straw store.
Look and Feel
Wide strips and hedged lanes in soft twilight; stone barns with skylit ridges; the scrape of rakes, creak of cart harness, and the whisper of winnowing fans. Ledgers on nail pegs, sack tags clipped to rails, and spice bundles drying under low-draw lamps.

- Analog Alert System: Analog Siren System tied to the Local Sheriff’s Office (Hope); bell posts at gatehouses.
- Deputy Patrols: Corridor pass-throughs; incident board at the East Crew House.
Player Interaction Possibilities (Legal and Illegal)
Legal:
- Receive GAIA assignments as fieldhand, irrigation steward, or barn loader.
- Drive/escort Hoo carts on permitted corridors to the mills.
- Assist QA clerks with sampling and seal stamping during audits.
Illegal:
- Swap lot tickets (e.g., Zelor ↔ Lunor) before weighbridge.
- Siphon premium Bilax sacks during drying; forge seal impressions.
- Tamper with sluices to damage a rival strip or mask off-corridor movement.
Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
Adventure Hook — The Strip That Harvested Itself: At audit, one Zelor strip shows full yield on paper—but crews swear they never cut it. No stubble, no chaff, no cart ruts. PCs track forged lot tickets, a duplicate seal hidden in a fence post, and midnight cart prints that vanish at a hedgerow stile. Is an insider ghosting harvests to a black-market depot, or are crates being relabeled downstream at the weighbridge? Clues: mismatched moisture slips, fresh wax in a barn lamp collar, and a cart team logged on a corridor permit that GAIA never issued.
