THE VEYRA

The Veyra (Velocis cervidion) is a sleek, quadruped herbivore native to the grasslands and open steppes of the Asari Region in the Eastern Equatorial Section of the Habitual Belt on VOI 700 D.

Unlike the heavy Hoo, which serves as a beast of burden, the Veyra is prized for its speed, agility, and stamina. Originally observed and occasionally hunted by the Native Tribes, it was first domesticated by exohumans in the Beta Age as a swift mount for couriers and scouts. By the Gamma Age, it had become the preferred animal for Express riders, Outlaws, and Sheriff’s deputies across the frontier.

• Surefooted: Advantage on checks or saves against being knocked prone while moving.
• Bonded Mount: With proper training, forms deep loyalty to a single rider, granting the rider advantage on Animal Handling checks.

• Social Structure: Naturally found in small herds; domesticated Veyras are often stabled in pairs or groups to reduce stress.

• Flight First: Veyras rely on speed rather than defense, fleeing predators in explosive bursts.

• Express Couriers: The backbone of frontier communication, used for long-distance dispatches where speed is essential.
• Outlaw Getaways: Favored by bandits and smugglers for their ability to outrun patrols.
• Deputy Mounts: The Guarding Troopers in the Beta Age and later the Federal and Local Sheriffs or deputies use Veyras for rapid response in rural territories.

• Gestation Period: 10 months, producing a single foal.
• Lifespan: 20–25 years.
• Training Age: Can be trained for riding from 2 years onward.

Where the Hoo embodies the heavy labor of the frontier, the Veyra represents freedom, speed, and danger. Its lean frame and glowing stripes give it a ghostly, almost untouchable quality as it races across the steppe. To settlers, the sight of an express rider on a Veyra signals urgency and authority. To Outlaws, it is the perfect partner for vanishing into the twilight.

The Veyra is not built for brute force encounters but plays an important role in fast-moving scenarios:

• Chases: Veyras are central to outlaw getaways or sheriff’s pursuits, creating dynamic chase sequences.
• Prestige Mounts: Owning a Veyra could grant status but also attract envy or theft.
