VOLCANO RALAR

Overview

Ralar Volcano is the namegiving and dominant geological feature of the Ralar Mountain Range. It marks one of the most dramatic elevations on the Dark Side of planet VOI 700 D, rising to a height of 4,800 meters and spanning over 2,500 square kilometers. As the centerpiece of a highly active volcanic system, Ralar shapes the geography, climate, and ecosystems of its surroundings.

The volcano’s massive crater and its frequent eruptions serve as both a natural landmark and a cultural symbol. Its fiery presence provides rare warmth and light on the Dark Side, making it an essential orientation point for travelers and settlers alike.

Local Climatic Conditions, Geography and Landscape

Ralar Volcano forms the heart of the surrounding mountain range, characterized by steep ash-covered slopes, solidified lava flows, and geothermal venting. Its landscape includes:

Local Flora

The volcanic terrain is rich in mineral nutrients, supporting specialized extremophile plant species. These life forms not only live on the volcano but are uniquely adapted to it, depending on the warmth, ash, and chemical richness of the terrain. Ralar acts as an isolated biodiversity hub, home to flora that likely couldn't survive elsewhere on the Dark Side:

Ralar's geothermal fields function as life-generating hotspots, feeding the soil and supporting limited photosynthesis-like processes through chemical energy. This allows a self-sustaining plant ecosystem to emerge even in total darkness.

Local Fauna

The geothermal activity supports one of the richest ecosystems on the Dark Side. Several animal species either live on the volcano or migrate to its geothermal areas for warmth and resources. Some species are endemic, having evolved to survive in ash, darkness, and toxic gases, while others rely on the volcano cyclically as a rare lifeline.

Ralar’s warmth creates a ripple effect: while some species permanently inhabit the volcano and its caves, others are transient, returning during mating seasons or harsh climate cycles elsewhere on the Dark Side. As such, Ralar acts as both a permanent ecosystem and a regional life engine.

Due to the founding of the Exohuman settlement Firetown during the Beta Age, the Ralar Mountains are the most explored area of the Ralar Region. However, this does not imply thorough scientific understanding. Since the signing of the Peace Treaty in the early Gamma Age, all targeted Exohuman research has been officially prohibited by the Permanent Supervisor of the Native Tribes. As a result, new findings in the Gamma Age rely solely on accidental discoveries, often lacking proper scientific documentation.

Documented species include:

Local Population and Settlement History

Native Presence

The Zark Tribe, an exiled subtribe of the Honga, has made the geothermal caves of Ralar Volcano its home. Branded as cursed and demonic, the Zark adapted to the extreme heat and formed alliances with outlaw factions during the Gamma Age.

Exohuman Exploration and Factions

Since the Beta Age, Exohuman settlers established Firetown at the volcano’s base, driven by its geothermal potential and mineral wealth. In the Gamma Age, the region is contested by:
