TANISH SEED
Overview
Tanish Seed is a silver-grained spice found in the upland terraces of the Asari Region on VOI 700 D. Its roasted, smoky aroma recalls Earth cumin, but with a sharper mineral bite.
The Native Tribes called it “Tanesh” (“smoke spark”), using it in flatbreads and sacred fire offerings. ExoHumans discovered it added warmth to marinades and doughs, quickly making it a cornerstone of Beta Age bread culture.
Physical Description & Growth Conditions
- Plant Type: Annual flowering herb
- Height: 60–80 cm
- Seeds: Silvery, oval grains stored in dried pods
- Leaves: Thin and feathery, bitter if eaten raw
- Soil & Climate: Prefers dry upland soils; drought-resistant
- Harvest: Seeds roasted, ground, or steeped in oil
Native Use & Cultural Significance
Native Tribes roasted Tanish seeds on hot stones and ground them into sacred pastes, eaten during rites of passage. Smoke from burning Tanish pods was believed to carry prayers skyward.
ExoHuman Use in the Beta Age
Settlers folded roasted Tanish seed powder into Lunor Wheat bread doughs and stews. It became a key flavoring in Hope’s bakeries. Marinades for Moka and Hoos often relied on Tanish Seed for its smoky edge.
Tanish Seed in the Gamma Age
Under Communardism, Tanish Seed fields were absorbed into the Federal Food Plant. Its distinct smoky bread remained a canteen staple, though stripped of its tribal ritual role.
