LAST FRONTIER UNIVERSITY
Overview
- Location: SE Educational Ring Road 1, Educational Ring, New Kourou
- Operational Period: 2625 – 2629
- Remark: Provisional campus built from Last Frontier wreckage; destroyed by fire during the Great War
The Last Frontier University (LFU) was the first academic institution for ExoHumans — originating aboard the multigenerational ship Last Frontier (2421–2625) and relocated to New Kourou after the crash. From its provisional halls in the Educational Ring, LFU educated settlers in science, engineering, and governance under the guidance of the AI GAIA’s archived modules. Its destruction in 2629 left a generations-long gap until the founding of Danah Wanah University.
Architectural Significance
- Materials: Welded hull-plating walls, cargo-crate timber framing, shuttle-canopy glass clerestories
- Design Purpose: Rapidly assembled “learning pod” modules to recreate GAIA’s virtual capabilities in a physical campus under resource constraints
Building Structure
Ground Floor – Teaching & Research
- Lecture Hall A & B: Spacious fixed-bench auditoriums equipped with holo-projector mounts, retractable windshade panels overhead, and smooth shuttle-deck flooring.
- Hydroponics Lab: Rows of gleaming troughs filled with sprouting Zelor Grain seedlings and Mirel Leaf greens; polished deck plating with integrated nutrient inlets.
- Culture Bioreactor Room: Clean-lined chambers housing stem-cell vats and bio-print scaffolds, each pod ringed by soft-glow status indicators.
- Reference Library: Wall-to-wall shelves stocked with GAIA data-slates, printed volumes, and star-chart scrolls; reading nooks beneath canopy-glass clerestories.
- Public Loo: Three unisex restroom, featuring the AuroraSan System.
Second Floor – Administration & Archives
- Dean’s Office: Sturdy desk crafted from shuttle-alloy panels and a wall map of VOI 700 D’s terrain.
- Faculty Offices (3): Compact cubicles each with a writing bench, and framed topographical charts of the explored areas of the Habitual Belt.
- Archive Loft: Organised racks of parchment scrolls, policy draft printouts, and a secure holo-crystal safe storing GAIA’s educational modules.
- Restroom: Two unisex restroom, featuring the AuroraSan System.
Exterior Grounds
- Assembly Courtyard: Flag-stone circle where public lectures and announcements occurred
Look and Feel
Before the flames claimed its hull, Last Frontier University thrummed with restless energy beneath New Kourou’s perpetual twilight. Holo-projectors flickered in Lecture Halls A and B, casting shifting constellations across scarred bulkhead walls as eager students debated planetary geology and fusion reactor design. The tang of warm metal and ozone from active bioreactors mingled with the earthy scent of hydroponic greens grown in broken troughs. Outside, Courier Drones droned overhead while clusters of scholars-data-slates in hand — crossed the flagstone Assembly Courtyard in animated discussion, lending the campus a vibrant buzz that only deepened the shock when it was lost to war.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Dean (1): Oversaw curriculum and GAIA-archive integration
- Professors (4): Led lectures in biology, engineering, law, and geopolitics
- GAIA Archivists (2): Maintained uplink terminals, retrieved legacy modules
- Cleaning Bot (1): A Cleaning Bot sweeps floors, dusts benches, and polishes glass.
Public Access & Operations
- Class Schedule: Mon–Fri, 08:00–18:00
- Laboratory Hours: Wed & Thu, 10:00–16:00 (project-work permitted)
- Public Lectures: Saturdays, 14:00–16:00 in the Assembly Courtyard
Security Measures
- Locked Labs: Hatch-locks requiring dual-operator codes
- Trooper Checkpoints: Guarding Troopers patrolled regularly to deter looting
Player Interaction Possibilities
Legal Interactions
- Attend a Lecture: Recover lore on VOI 700 D geology or starship systems
- Access Archives:Negotiate with GAIA Archivists for encrypted data-slate reads
- Organize Seminars:Partner with professors to relay frontier-farming advances
Illegal Interactions
- Hack GAIA Uplink: Bootstrap a rogue learning protocol for restricted knowledge
- Scavenge Prototype Tech: Strip bioreactor components to jury-rig improvised gear
