FORGE OF ATRANA

Overview

  • Location: Adjacent to the Atrana Mountains, near the settlement of Morningstar.
  • Founding Year: 2626
  • Founder: Jack Dolany, a skilled huntsman who identified the need for reliable hunting tools after the crash landing of the Last Frontier.
  • Original Purpose: To produce finely crafted hunting gear for the settlers of the Free State of Settlers.

The Forge of Atrana began as a small workshop specializing in premium tools for hunters. However, the onset of the Great War transformed it into a critical part of the industrial exohuman complex, repurposing its operations for mass weapon production.

History

Early Years (2626–2628):

Jack Dolany, a hunter, established the Forge of Atrana to address the settlers’ dire need for functional weapons and tools. Initially, the manufactory produced high-quality hunting equipment, crafting up to 250 specialized items per year, including bows, knives, and other survival gear.

Transformation During the Great War (2628–2630):

With the outbreak of the Great War, the Forge of Atrana was commandeered by the Volunteer Army of Man (VAM). Under GAIA’s direction, the Forge shifted from artisanal production to large-scale industrial manufacturing, producing 50 weapons per day to support the war effort. The Forge became the main supplier of ranged and close-combat weapons for the VAM, prioritizing speed and functionality over craftsmanship.

Post-War Closure (2631):

Following the Peace Treaty, the Forge of Atrana ceased operations. Firearms were banned for Exohumans, and the Forge was ordered to shut down, with most remaining weapons confiscated or destroyed. Jack Dolany, devastated by the closure of his life’s work, took his own life, leaving behind a complex legacy tied to humanity’s survival and violence.

Weapons of the Forge of Atrana

  • Origin: Produced from 2627–2629.
  • Purpose: Designed as a silent yet powerful hunting rifle, ideal for stalking prey like Odos and defending against predators like Moars.
  • Legacy: Became a favored weapon during the Great War, prized for its range and piercing accuracy.
  • Origin: Introduced in 2629 as a reliable and rapidly manufactured ranged weapon.
  • Purpose: Used by soldiers for close-range combat and skirmishes, firing iron balls salvaged from spaceship components.
  • Legacy: Its simplicity and adaptability made it a staple weapon for the Volunteer Army of Man, embodying the ingenuity of the settlers during the war.

Legacy and Impact

The Forge of Atrana carries a multifaceted legacy:

  • The Individualist Perspective: Celebrated as a testament to human resilience and ingenuity, the Forge symbolizes the settlers' ability to adapt and thrive in the face of adversity. The Individualists view it as a proud example of humanity's determination to carve out a place on VOI 700 D.
  • The Communard Perspective: Condemned as a destructive force, the Forge represents the lethal and expansionist tendencies of the Free State of Settlers. The Communards criticize the Forge for enabling the trespassing and exploitation of Native lands under the guise of survival and hunting.
  • Jack Dolany’s Tragic End: The founder’s suicide after the Forge’s closure highlights the personal cost of the war and the profound shifts in Exohuman society. Dolany’s death serves as a sobering reminder of the human toll behind the Forge's innovations.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

  • Historical Exploration: Players could uncover the Forge's history, finding tools or weapons from its pre-war production or remnants of its war-era expansion.
  • Legacy Missions: Create missions centered around recovering surviving weapons, exploring the Forge's ruins, or discovering personal items left by Jack Dolany.
  • Faction Conflict: Introduce debates or missions reflecting the divergent views of the Forge’s legacy, with Communard and Individualist characters clashing over its impact.
