FEDERAL ALLOTMENT CENTERS OF NEW KOUROU

Overview

Locations in New Kourou:

  • FAC 1: SE Thoreau Road 3 (Public Services Ring)
  • FAC 2: SW Thoreau Road 3 (Public Services Ring)
  • FAC 3: NW Thoreau Road 3 (Public Services Ring)
  • FAC 4: NE Thoreau Road 4 (Public Services Ring)

The Federal Allotment Centers (FACs) in New Kourou are essential distribution hubs where citizens can receive essential goods bases on their Allotment Cards. These centers are part of a larger network established by the Federal Allotment Agency (FAA), designed to meet the basic needs of citizens within the Exohuman Federal Confederation’s economic model, known as Communardism. Each center can serve up to 4,000 residents, ensuring efficient distribution across New Kourou’s community.

History

The four FACs in New Kourou opened on February 28, 2633, under the leadership of Supreme Councilor Aisha Patel and the Communard government. This was part of a larger shift from the money-based system of the Beta Age to the communal allotment system. Additional centers in Firetown, Hope, and Morningstar followed on January 1, 2634, as the system expanded to cover the entire ExoHuman settlements.

Architectural Significance

  • Construction Material: Mycelium blocks, echoing the community’s commitment to sustainable architecture.
  • Distinctive Roof: Designed to resemble a leaf, symbolizing nourishment and protection.
  • Vertical Gardens: The FACs in New Kourou feature lush vertical gardens, producing fruits and vegetables that contribute directly to the food supply within each center. These gardens serve as a symbol of sustainable living and self-sufficiency, in alignment with Communard values.

The FACs are uniquely designed for efficiency and environmental harmony. However, due to environmental limitations, the FACs in Firetown lack vertical gardens, highlighting the need to adapt sustainable practices to local conditions.

Structure and Space Plan

Exterior

  • Security Checkpoint: Entry requires a valid Allotment Card, overseen by a Deputy of the Federal Sheriff for controlled access.
  • Warehouse (non-public): Each FAC has a secure, two-story warehouse at the rear for storing goods. A manual freight elevator is used to move items to distribution areas efficiently.

Interior Layout

Ground Floor

  • Reception and Information Desk: Provides citizens with information on the current distribution key and answers questions about Allotment Cards and Vouchers.
  • Public Facilities: Equipped with three public toilets and washbasins.
  • Grocery Section: Distributes weekly food baskets according to the annual distribution key. Two counters handle grocery distribution, with designated waiting areas to manage flow.
  • Furniture Section: A separate area with its own exit for heavier items like furniture, allowing for easier transport.

Second Floor

  • Household Items Section: Offers cleaning supplies, household goods, and other necessities.
  • Clothing Section: Provides the standard clothing set suitable for life in both the Habitual Belt and the Dark Side.
  • Miscellaneous Goods Section: Distributes various other items, including tools and specialty goods, based on citizens’ distribution keys.
  • Office of the Center Manager: Administers the FAC’s operations and coordinates with the FAA.
  • Staff Facilities: A break room and lockers provide staff with a comfortable space to rest and secure their belongings.
