FOGWOOD SAWMILL HEADQUARTERS
Overview
Founded by Hanata Ito in September 2625 — months before Morningstar’s formal establishment — Fogwood Sawmill Inc. was the settlement’s first large‐scale timber operation. Drawing on the company’s privately managed woodlands (Fogwood Sawmill Timber Yard), it oversaw the planting, growth, and harvest of massive hardwood stands. Logs arrived by Hoo and conveyor from the forest edge, were milled into lumber, dried in kilns, and then shipped to local carpentries (such as Hussaini Carpentry Inc.), building firms, and frontier construction projects across the Free State of Settlers.
After the Peace Treaty and the founding of the Federal Confederation in 2632, Fogwood was nationalized and reorganized as the Federal Wood Plant under the Federal Allotment Agency.
Architectural Significance
Construction Materials: Reinforced hardwood beams, quarried stone foundation, and corrugated steel roofing
Floors: Single expansive processing hall with elevated mezzanine for offices
Design Purpose: Maximized throughput — wide intake bays, overhead rail tracks, and multi-stage conveyor systems
Processed Timber Storage: Covered yards with adjustable ventilated racks for air-drying lumber
Town‐Wall Gate: Dedicated timber‐lined gate in Morningstar’s defensive wall, allowing direct log transport from the nearby company woodlands into the mill

Building Structure
Main Processing Hall
Log Intake Bay: Wide doors with hydraulic clamps guide incoming tree trunks onto roller conveyors
Primary Sawing Line: Tandem circular saws (20″ diameter) slice logs into standardized planks
-
Drying Kilns: Four compartmentalized chambers using low-heat steam loops for gradual moisture removal
Green Lumber Yard: Open‐air racks for partially seasoned wood, protected by overhangs
Mezzanine – Administration & Maintenance
Foreman’s Office: Desk, route maps of woodlands, production report, guest chair
Clerks’ Alcove: Order ledgers, shipment manifests, and contracts with downstream carpentries
Maintenance Bay: Spare blades, drive belts, and diagnostic consoles for Maintenance Bots

AuroraSan-equipped stalls
Director’s Residence & Office (Adjacent Wooden House)
Location: Freestanding timber-framed cottage immediately west of the main mill building.
Director’s Office: Sturdy oak desk, leather-bound logbooks, wall-mounted route maps of the company woodlands, and a short-wave transceiver for direct communications.
Assistant Nanny Bot Nook: Charging cradle and tool-rack for “Nanny,” the converted
Butler Bot — responsible for document delivery, visitor reception, and light maintenance tasks.

Exterior Grounds
Look and Feel
Inside, the scent of fresh sap and warmed timber hangs heavy. Rhythmically, logs thunder onto steel rollers; sawdust drifts in the amber glow of high-bay lamps. Manual Labor Bots hum along treads, ferrying planks to kilns while human operators fine-tune blade settings. On the mezzanine, clerks call out orders. Outside, the distant forest murmurs as cutting crews drive axes and chain-saws through trunks, returning steady supplies to the mill.
Roles and Responsibilities
Mill Owner & Director (1): Hanata Ito oversees operations, negotiates supply contracts
Foreman (1): Manages daily production targets and crew assignments
Sawmill Operators (6): Run sawing lines, monitor conveyor sorting
Clerks (2): Process orders, coordinate shipments to Hussaini Carpentry and others
-
Maintenance Bots (3): The
Maintenance Bots perform blade changes, lubrication, and diagnostic checks
Public Access & Operations
Supply Chain:
Harvest: Lumberjacks fell and debark trees in the company woodlands
Transport: Logs delivered to intake bay via Hoo‐drawn wagons
Milling: Planks sawn, sorted, and kiln-dried
-
Security Measures
Perimeter Fence: 2 m timber‐and‐wire barrier with spike-topped posts
Gatehouse Guarding Bot: A single Guarding Bot, armed with a
Guarding Troopers Stun Gun and accompanied by a
Combat Drone, stands watch at the reinforced timber gate that opens onto the woodlands
Access Control: Gatehouse attendant performs identity and credential checks on all incoming workers, vehicles, and carts
Emergency Shutdown: Manual “kill switch” located beside the Production Control Desk immediately halts all saws, conveyors, and automated feed systems
Director’s Office Armament: Hanata Ito maintains a
Windstrike Rifle secured in a wall rack for last-resort defense of the facility

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
Fogwood Sawmill makes a rich backdrop for industrial intrigue or wilderness missions:
The Missing Logs: A critical shipment of seasoned lumber inexplicably vanishes on its short journey from the Fogwood Sawmill to the adjacent Hussaini Carpentry Inc. Since the carpentry is literally next door, there’s no clear route for the logs to disappear — and yet the delivery yard stands empty. Director Hanata Ito, baffled and furious at both the financial loss and the breach of his facility’s security, hires the PCs to unravel the mystery. Can the PCs recover the logs, unmask the saboteurs, and restore Fogwood’s reputation— or will the forest’s shadowy thieves strike again?
