THE WESTERN SOUTH MIDBELT SECTION (ZEDARI)

Overview

Zedari, the Western Section of the South Midbelt Sections of the Habitual Belt on VOI 700 D, is a region of complete mystery. Unlike its twin section, Revari, which has been partially explored through Exohuman expeditions, Zedari remains Terra Incognita — a land entirely uncharted by Exohuman explorers. No expedition has ever set foot in Zedari, and its geography, ecosystems, and tribal cultures are known only through speculation and second-hand accounts from Native Tribes in Revari.

Since Exohuman exploration in the Habitual Belt ceased following the signing of the Peace Treaty in 2631, the region remains entirely off-limits. Scientists and historians rely on the Twin-Section Hypothesis, which suggests that Zedari should mirror Revari in its landscapes, climate, and biodiversity. However, without direct observation, the accuracy of this hypothesis remains unverified.Given the vast geological diversity of VOI 700 D, it is possible that Zedari holds undiscovered landscapes, unknown species, and civilizations that have never encountered outsiders.

Climatic Conditions, Geography and Landscapes

Zedari’s geography is entirely theoretical, constructed from indirect sources and the assumptions of the Twin-Section Hypothesis. If this hypothesis is accurate, Zedari should share similar landscapes with Revari, including rolling steppes, dense forests, and river systems. However, without direct exploration, the existence and precise layout of these features remain unknown. Additionally, its borderlands — where it meets the South Pole Section (Virari) and Vazhak on the Dark Side — may exhibit distinct microclimatic shifts, influenced by the unique environmental conditions of these regions.

Eastern Borderland Microclimate (Transition to Desert Side)

If Zedari follows the Twin-Section Hypothesis, then the easternmost parts of the region may experience gradual shifts toward arid conditions due to the influence of the Desert Side. This transition zone would likely feature:

  • Sparser vegetation, with semi-arid grasslands replacing dense foliage.
  • Increased temperature fluctuations due to exposure to dry winds.
  • Periodic dust storms, similar to those recorded near Revari’s western border.

Western Borderland Microclimate (Transition to Vazhak / Dark Side)

To the west, where Zedari borders the Dark Side’s Vazhak region, the landscape may be influenced by reduced sunlight exposure. If this is the case, the transition zone might include:

  • Cooler temperatures and increased moisture retention.
  • Unique vegetation adapted to thrive in dimly lit environments.
  • Mist-covered valleys and slow-growing, shadow-adapted forests.

Expected Geographic Features

  • Extensive Grasslands & Steppes – If the Twin-Section Hypothesis holds, Zedari should have vast open plains similar to Revari’s Varo Steppes.
  • Forested Regions – Scientists assume that dense forests, comparable to the Veltani Forest in Revari, may exist, but their locations and species composition remain unknown.
  • Rivers & Lakes – If the hypothesis is correct, Zedari should have water sources analogous to Lake Jirvana and the Revari River, but no confirmation exists.
  • Unidentified Geographical Features – Since no Exohuman has seen Zedari, entirely unique landforms—such as deep canyons, isolated plateaus, or hidden wetland systems—may exist, contradicting expectations.

Flora

With no recorded botanical surveys, all knowledge about Zedari’s plant life is speculative. If the Twin-Section Hypothesis is correct, similar vegetation to Revari should be present, including:

  • Steppe Grasses – Hardy plants likely covering the open plains.
  • Forested Flora – A mix of coniferous and deciduous species, possibly similar to the Veltani Forest.
  • Wetland and River Plants – If comparable to Revari, the region should host aquatic plant species along potential water sources.
  • Unique Adaptations – Possible variations in flora due to undiscovered environmental differences, leading to unknown species.

Fauna

As no direct observations exist, scientists assume that Zedari’s fauna is similar to Revari’s, with potential deviations based on environmental variables.

  • Grazing Mammals – Large herbivores, possibly mirroring the migratory species of Revari’s steppes.
  • Aerial Predators – Raptors and scavenging birds likely dominate the skies, assuming similar wind patterns.
  • Non-Predatory Birds – Likely includes songbirds, waterfowl, and migratory species, but regional variations may exist.
  • Stealthy Hunters – Feline-like predators are expected to inhabit forested zones, if such zones exist.
  • Aquatic Species – Potential fish and amphibian species, assuming lakes and rivers are present.
  • Undocumented Creatures – Since no Exohuman has set foot in Zedari, entirely unknown species may exist, adapted to conditions beyond current understanding.

Population

Since no Exohuman expedition has entered Zedari, all knowledge about its Native population comes from interviews with Revari Tribes, who spoke of distant western tribes but had no direct contact with them. These accounts suggest that Zedari is inhabited, but without field research, these claims remain unconfirmed.

Assumptions about Zedari’s Native Population

  • Language – Based on current observations with other Native Tribes, tribes in Zedari likely speak a dialect of Shang Telu.
  • Cultural Parallels – It is also likely that the tribes in Zedari share similar creation myths, but Zedari’s tribes may also have distinct religious, social, or technological developments.
  • Isolation – Given the lack of direct contact, tribes in Zedari may have developed in near-total isolation, possibly leading to unique governance systems, warfare tactics, or environmental adaptations.
  • Unknown Number of Tribes – Exohumans scientists speculate that Zedari has at least five major groups, but this is based entirely on asumptions.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

Zedari is unlike any other region in the Habitual Belt — it is truly unexplored, with no Exohuman expeditions having set foot in its territory. Because of this, Dungeon Masters have complete creative freedom when designing adventures in this Terra Incognita. However, to maintain consistency within the storyworld of 102 Lightyears Away from Home, we recommend that Dungeon Masters use the Twin Section Hypothesis as a baseline for worldbuilding.

The Twin Section Hypothesis suggests that Zedari shares key environmental features with its twin region, Revari, such as its temperate climate, grasslands, forests, and river systems. While Dungeon Masters can generally use Revari as a template, Zedari does not have to be an exact copy — small deviations, undiscovered anomalies, or unique evolutionary paths can be introduced to enrich the setting.

When adding these special ingredients, it is important to follow the general rules of the storyworld and stay true to the Sci-Fi Western genre. This means that while mysteries, unexpected threats, or lost civilizations can be introduced, they should align with the established technological, cultural, and ecological limitations of VOI 700 D.

Beta Age (2625–2631) – The Era of Speculation and Lost Expeditions

During the Beta Age, Exohumans theorized about Zedari but never attempted to explore it. Instead, their assumptions were based entirely on the Twin Section Hypothesis and second-hand Native accounts. Despite this, adventurers, outlaws, and rogue explorers may have tried to enter Zedari — only to vanish without a trace.

  • “The Last Log of the Argus” – A group of independent Exohuman explorers defied orders and secretly attempted to cross into Zedari in 2627. They never returned. However, in 2639, a fragment of their last expedition log was found drifting down a River in Zilari, hinting at an unknown presence or danger deep within Zedari. Players are tasked with deciphering the log’s cryptic messages and deciding whether to follow in the lost explorers’ footsteps.

Gamma Age (2631–Present) – The Forbidden Frontier

With the Peace Treaty in effect, Exohumans are forbidden from setting foot in Zedari. However, this does not mean that all are obeying the restrictions. Rogue factions, corporate smugglers, and radical explorers may be operating in the shadows, seeking forbidden knowledge.

  • “The Map That Shouldn’t Exist” – An Exohuman Loner (Outlaw-Faction) has been captured in New Kourou, carrying a detailed treasure map of Zedari — a region that no one has ever explored. Where did he get it? Did he cross into Zedari, or was it given to him by someone (or something) within? The players must uncover the origins of the map and decide whether to expose or exploit its secrets.
