**The Planet VOI 700 D**

Position in Space

VOI 700 D is a near-Earth-sized exoplanet, likely rocky, orbiting within the habitable zone of the red dwarf VOI 700, the outermost planet within the system. It is located roughly 102 light-years away from The Earth in the constellation of Dorado. VOI 700 D orbits its star at a distance of 0.163 AU (24,400,000 km; 15,200,000 mi) from its host star with an orbital period of roughly 267.3 days, has a mass 1.72x times that of Earth, and has a radius of around 1.19 times that of Earth. It has been estimated that the planet receives about 86% the energy that the Earth receives from the Sun.

Bound rotation: A planet of eternal nights and days

The three planets around VOI-700 orbit their star in bound rotation. They always turn the same side towards it, so that on one hemisphere it is always day, on the other hemisphere it is always night. Only on a narrow strip between the day and night sides - the so-called Habitual Belt - is the planet really habitable. East of the belt, the so called Desert Side reaches hostile, desert-hot temperatures of up to 70 degrees Celsius. And in the west of the belt, on the so called Dark Side of the planet, temperatures are deep below freezing.

Population

There has been intelligent life on VOI 700 D for a long time. Until the beginning of the Beta Age, VOI 700 D was populated exclusively by members of the so-called Native Tribes. The Native Tribes inhabit exclusively the Habitual Belt. Their number is about 500,000.

Since the Beta Age also representatives of the human species from Earth are at home on VOI 700 D, who came via the space mission of the Last Frontier in the year 2625.

They have founded the settlements of New Kourou, Hope and Morningstar in the Habitual Belt, as well as the settlement of Firetown on the Dark Side. Their population is about 25,000 people.

Climatic conditions on the Desert Side

The Desert Side of VOI 700 D is located in the east of the Habitual Belt. Since it is exposed to the sun all day long without protection, temperatures of up to 70 degrees Celsius prevail on it. Humans cannot survive here for long (unless they are specially protected). This also applies to the plant world.

Climatic conditions on the Dark Side

The Dark Side of VOI 700 D is located in the west of the Habitual Belt. Since it is not illuminated by the sun, temperatures here can reach -70 degrees Celsius on cloudless days.

Climatic conditions of the Habitual Belt

The Habitual Belt stretches along the equator of VOI 700 D and divides the planet into an ice-cold, dark half and a desert-hot, eternally daylight side. The belt is about 400 to 500 km wide. The light conditions in the belt are always as if the sun was just setting. Everything is bathed in twilight. The temperatures are always between 20 and 28 degrees

Flora and Fauna of the Habitual Belt

The Habitual Belt stretches along the equator of VOI 700 D and divides the planet into an ice-cold, dark half and a desert-hot, eternally daylight side. The belt is about 400 to 500 km wide. It is surrounded on both sides by low and high mountains. The mountain range protects the habitual zone from the extreme climatic conditions on the dark and ever-light side. The highest of the mountains is 9.000 meters high and is called Oot by The natives tribes of VOI 700 D. It is located about a two day's walk from von New Kourou. And from its glacier springs the source of the Arla River, which flows horizontally through the belt until it evaporates in the Lake Arla on the Desert Side. Which is why there is always a Haze Dome hanging over the Lake Arla that is already visible from many kilometers away.

The light conditions in the belt are always as if the sun was just setting. Everything is bathed in twilight. The temperatures are always between 20 and 28 degrees. These light and weather conditions also shape the flora and fauna of the belt. Thus, the flora is dominated by penumbra and shade plants. In other words, plants that need only a fraction of the usual amount of light to perform their maximum photosynthesis and can therefore grow in shady locations. At the same time, the belt offers a quite changeable flora: Most of the mountains are covered by mixed forests up to a certain altitude - while the valley is lined with red-green floodplains stretching along the banks of the Arla River and its tributaries. The major exceptions to this otherwise very uniform landscape are a mile-long swamp area that the Native Tribes call Orlanda, and an adjacent lake plateau.

The wildlife of the Habitual Belt is the richest on the planet. At the top of the food chain are the bear-like predator Arr and the bird of prey Moar, which dominates the skies. The Arr makes its home in mountain caves, which it leaves only to hunt prey, which it finds primarily in the fertile valleys. The Moar is also at home in the mountains. It perches in nests above the tree line of the mountains. Due to its sheer size and the power of its massive claws, the Moar is even able to attack the up to 1,50m tall Hoos and carry the lighter of the ungulates up to its nests.

The Moar - just like the Arr - usually hunt alone. Unless they are raising offspring. Then they take the youngest with them on the hunt. Human-like creatures are not among the favored food sources of either predator. But when they feel hungry or in danger, they will defiantly attack …

Flora and Fauna of the Dark Side

The Dark Side of VOI 700 D is located in the west of the Habitual Belt. Since it is not illuminated by the sun, temperatures here can reach -70 degrees Celsius on cloudless days. Situated behind a mountain massif that separates the Dark Side from the Habitual Belt, it offers animals and plants the most difficult survival habitat imaginable. Nevertheless, the Dark Side is not uninhabited. The animals that call the Dark Side home have adapted perfectly to the difficult conditions. The majority of them are predators and scavengers that feed on each other. The most notorious of them is the Korozo. The Korozo has no eyesight. Instead, it uses its brilliant hearing and ultrasonic sounds to orient itself. Although it tends to be somewhat small in size as a predator (roughly like a hyena), it has an exceptionally large jaw with razor-sharp teeth …

At the other end of the food chain are the Kajang. Kajanga are hybrids of mammals and fish. They can survive both in the deep waters of the Dark Side and on land. The skin of the Kajanga is scaled, but they have four legs like a land animal. A little bit it seems as if the evolution of the Kajanga just stopped when they were about to leave the water forever. This is also reflected in their large, dark eyes, which they don't actually need on the Dark Side. Unfortunately, however, the Kajanga have not received any other features from evolution for guidance. Therefore, they actually grope almost blindly through the DARK SIDE. What makes them easy victims of predators. The natives, on the other hand, revere the Kajanga as a good luck charm. In their culture, it is considered the greatest luck if a Kajanga follows you voluntarily and settles down with you. To challenge luck, the natives, in a special ceremony, seek out a herd of Kajanga on the night they become adults and try to lure a Kajanga to their home with food. And when the Kajanga live in the Habitual Belt, they can see properly again. As if they were actually at home in the Habitual Belt …

The natural landscape of the Dark Side is characterized by snow, ice and mostly frozen, deep lakes. Most of the time there is a cold, drafty wind that sometimes turns into a blizzard. The landscape offers - apart from some rocky mountains - hardly any variety. Plants do not grow. It is too cold for that. The ground beneath the snow is stony or frozen, making it as hard as stone. The only exception in this wasteland is Ralar - a large, active volcano in the deep west of the Dark Side. Red lava runs down its rocky walls, illuminating the eternal night with its unreal glowing red light. Until the lava evaporates in the dark sea at the foot of the volcanic mountain.

Flora and Fauna of the Desert Side

The Desert Side of VOI 700 D is located in the east of the Habitual Belt. Since it is exposed to the sun all day long without protection, temperatures of up to 70 degrees Celsius prevail on it. Humans cannot survive here for long (unless they are specially protected). This also applies to the plant world.

Basically, the Desert Side is nothing but an eternal, inanimate-looking sandy desert. The only visual interruptions that catch your eye are shifting dunes formed by the hot wind - and the Lake Arla-oasis-region, where the Arla River evaporates under a huge Haze Dome, that is already visible from many kilometers away.

But beneath the boiling hot ground of the Desert Side there are some animal species that have adapted perfectly to the hostile environment. In addition to a variety of insect species, three predator species stand out in particular: The Worla for example - a snake creature up to three meters long with heads at each end of its body. The Worla moves as fast as an arrow through the sandy underground of the Desert Side, always in search of prey. Another typical predator of the Desert Side is the scorpion-like Akzana. With its poisonous sting it can kill any living creature within a few seconds. Nevertheless, he falls victim again and again to the most dangerous birds of prey of the Desert Side: the The Borr. The Borr travel exclusively in swarms and pounce on any creature that catches their eye. Even the Worla are powerless against them. Because the Borr attack their victims from all sides and hack at it with their sharp beaks. The only creatures they have to fear live in the Habitual Belt, which is why they focus primarily on the Desert Side. But sometimes single Borr swarms dare to reach the border mountains, where they also attack the natives …
