Context and Historical Background
The Guarding Troopers Stun Gun (GTSG) was originally developed on Earth and issued to the Guarding Troopers aboard the Last Frontier. Designed for internal law enforcement, the weapon offered a non-lethal alternative for crowd control, suppressing threats, and handling civil unrest in the confined quarters of the spaceship.
Following the crash-landing on VOI 700 D in 2625, the Free State of Settlers retained the Guarding Troopers as their primary law enforcement organization. The GTSG remained their standard melee weapon, providing a reliable means of subduing disorderly settlers without resorting to lethal force. Unlike Laser Guns, which faced severe energy shortages due to the destruction of Quantum Fusion Batteries, the GTSG remained widely operational, sustaining its role well into the early Beta Age.
However, following the dissolution of the Guarding Troopers and the establishment of the Federal Sheriff system after the Great War, the Federal Council ordered the recycling of all remaining Guarding Troopers Stun Guns. These repurposed weapons became the foundation for the Federal Stun Gun, which continues to be used in the Gamma Age. Despite this, some original GTSG units were stolen or smuggled onto the Black Market, making them rare collector’s items among Individualists and Outlaws.
Usage and Regulation
During the Alpha Age and early Beta Age, the Guarding Troopers Stun Gun was strictly regulated and issued solely to official law enforcement personnel:
- Authorized Users: Standard issue for all Guarding Troopers aboard the Last Frontier and later in the Free State of Settlers.
- Restricted Civilian Access: Civilians were prohibited from owning or operating the GTSG under Starship Security Protocols and later Settler Law.
- Controlled Supply: The Free State of Settlers ensured that the GTSG remained in the hands of law enforcement, but post-war disorder led to a number of stolen or lost units circulating on the black market.
By the Gamma Age, with the weapon officially decommissioned, remaining GTSG units have become sought-after relics for collectors and criminals alike.
Materials and Crafting
Housing: Constructed from reinforced polymer and metal alloys to withstand the harsh conditions of space and planetary environments.
Electrodes: High-conductivity electrodes deliver controlled electrical pulses, capable of stunning targets upon contact.
Quantum Fusion Battery: The GTSG is powered by a miniaturized Quantum Fusion Battery (QFB), providing up to 100 uses per charge. The advanced energy efficiency ensures long-term reliability, even in power-restricted settings.
Emergency Power Reserve: A built-in capacitor allows for a single emergency discharge if the battery is completely depleted.
Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
The Guarding Troopers Stun Gun provides opportunities for both historical and active game settings:
Pre-War Law Enforcement: During the Beta Age, players aligned with law enforcement may use the GTSG in missions involving arrests, riots, or controlling public disorder.
The Lost Stun Gun (Gamma Age): A rare GTSG surfaces in Firetown’s Black Market, rumored to be in the possession of an outlaw. The players must locate and retrieve it before it falls into the wrong hands.
A Stun Gun Relic (Historical Flashback Missions): Players could participate in a pre-war storyline involving the Guarding Troopers, where they must use their stun guns to enforce order aboard the Last Frontier or during the chaotic days following the crash-landing.
Battery Quest: Quantum Fusion Batteries are now incredibly rare. A group of Outlaws seeks to recover an old cache of batteries, potentially restoring a set of decommissioned Guarding Troopers Stun Guns for use in rebellion.
