COMMUNARDISM

Overview

Communardism is the economic and social system of the Exohuman Federal Confederation on VOI 700 D during the Gamma Age, established by the Communards after the Great War. Rooted in equality, sustainability, and shared responsibility, Communardism seeks to create a society free of economic disparities while prioritizing resource conservation and ecological balance.

Developed under the guidance of Supreme Councilor Aisha Patel, Communardism replaced the Human Settlement Plan (HSP) and the traditional capitalist model of the Free State of Settlers with an economy focused on meeting the needs of all citizens without pursuing unchecked growth. The system is deeply integrated with the AI GAIA, which manages planning, allocation, and labor assignments to ensure efficiency and fairness.

Principles of Communardism

The basic idea of communardism is that there are no economic differences in society just different responsibilities and roles.

All citizens of the federation who participate in the labor force have the right to the same kind of housing, a right to good nutrition and to all typical products of daily use.

Food, as well as all other necessities of life, are allocated through allotment cards issued by the Federal Allotment Agency. There is no money or other means of payment. Living space is provided through the Federal Housing Agency,

Allottment is based on a key developed by the artificial intelligence GAIA, which takes into account different individual needs (e.g. due to increased caloric requirements due to physical work or certain allergies, etc.).

Growth, as in a capitalist society, is not envisaged in the economic form of Communardism; rather, the economy serves only the ever-present needs of the citizens and produces only what is actually needed.

The Annual Plan and the role of GAIA

To enable the most sustainable, resource-efficient fulfillment of human needs, all economic output in Communardism is planned by the AI GAIA in the form of a so-called Annual Plan.

This means that GAIA specifies what goods will be produced, how and where they will be produced, how they will be transported and stored, and what services must be provided over the next 12 months.

For this purpose, GAIA also calculates what professional skills and human resources are needed for the productions or services to be performed. Subsequently, the required roles are assigned to persons and, if necessary, further training is organized.

The assignment of training for young awakened persons works similarly. Here, GAIA forecasts the development of the next five to ten years and assigns training paths to the adolescents on this basis.

Civic duties in Communardism

In the system of Communardism, citizens are obliged to accept and fulfill the tasks assigned to them on the basis of the annual plan of GAIA.

Anyone who refuses is liable to prosecution and violates the Civil Code. Here, the professional rights and duties of citizens are specified in detail under Section 11:

Section 11: Employment

  • Right and Duty to Employment
  • (1) Every citizen of the Federal Confederation has the right and duty to gainful employment, which includes fair and equal opportunities for work, job security, and just remuneration.
  • (2) The assignment of employment opportunities shall be overseen by the GAIA System, which ensures efficient job assignments based on the annual plan for the economy.
  • Employment Contracts and Labor Rights *
  • (1) Employment contracts shall be governed by the principles of fairness, non-discrimination, and respect for workers' rights, with due consideration for the GAIA System's job assignments.
  • (2) All citizens, including native residents, shall have equal access to employment opportunities determined by the GAIA System, without unjust discrimination based on their tribe, gender, age, disability, or other protected characteristics.
  • (3) The Federal Council, in collaboration with the GAIA System, shall establish and enforce minimum standards for working conditions, including fair wages represented by allotment cards, reasonable working hours, occupational health and safety, and social security provisions.
  • (4) Assignment for work shall be determined by the GAIA System based on factors such as skills, experience, job responsibilities, and the economic needs outlined in the annual plan.
  • (5) Employees shall have the right to express their preferences and provide feedback to the GAIA System regarding their job assignments, subject to the overall needs and priorities of the economy.

Historical background and context

Born from a community of travelers

Communardism has its roots on the multigenerational spaceship Last Frontier. For there were no economic differences among the travelers. All had the same size cabins or square meters per person, everyone wore the same space suit and food was provided by the same canteen. All people were also able to use the leisure facilities on board equally. Duties among passengers were also distributed aboard the Last Frontier by AI GAIA according to talent and need. Everyone had to do what they did best to generate added value for the community.

Those who refused to perform their assigned tasks were sanctioned according to a fixed set of rules. For example, use of the recreational facilities could be canceled or one was allotted fewer calories.

Most people of the Gamma Age have internalized these basic principles of living together on the spaceship, since they have spent most of their lives under these special conditions or at least were influenced by them in their childhood.

Rediscovered by a guilty conscience

After the humans landed on the planet VOI 700 D in the year 2625, everyone wanted to get rid of the narrow, equalizing social and economic conditions of the spaceship as quickly as possible. Everyone wanted as much individual freedom as possible and to live their own dreams. This led to a conflict with the Native Tribes and resulted in the Great War.

At the end of the war, when the humans stood there as losers and for a short time it was clear that they had forfeited their right to stay on the new planet, there was a return to the values of the time on the spaceship. People began to be ashamed of how they had behaved “in the rush after landing,” as the first head of the Federal Confederation government Aisha Patel formulated it in her famous keynote address "On New Beginnings After the End."

Moreover, the peace treaty required people to absolutely renounce growth and waste of resources.

From this basic sentiment, the Communard party, after the establishment of the Federal Confederation, developed the economic form of the Communardim, based on the social and economic values of the time on the spaceship.
