THE ANTI WAR MOVEMENT
Overview
The Anti War Movement was a pivotal social movement within the ExoHuman community during the Great War (2630–2631) between the Volunteer Army of Man and the Alliance of Native Tribes. Operating in the Beta Age on VOI 700 D, the movement sought to end the prolonged conflict, advocating for peace and coexistence between ExoHumans and Natives. At its height, the movement counted over 1,000 active members and significantly influenced the course of human history on VOI 700 D. The movement officially dissolved after the surrender of the ExoHumans on April 8, 2631.
Aisha Patel, later Supreme Councilor of the Federal Confederation, is widely regarded as one of the most important initiators and leaders of the movement.
Aims of the Anti War Movement
The Anti War Movement formed to end the stalemated war between humans and Natives beginning in 2630. In doing so, one of the most important goals of the movement within human society was, first, to awaken understanding of the Native Tribes' perspective as well as to create the conditions for a growing willingness to surrender within human society. The latter was greatly facilitated by the increasing famine in the encircled communities of New Kourou, Hope, and Morningstar, which steadily reduced human willingness to continue the war.
The three main theses of the movement were:
- 1. The Natives are not waging a war of aggression against the Humans. They are only reacting to their destruction of their planet.
- 2. if the Humans want to have perspective on this planet, they must integrate the perspectives of the Native Tribes into their worldview. The future on VOI 700 D can only be a shared one.
- 3. if the Humans surrender and show that they want peace, they will benefit in the long run.
Important milestones and achievements of the movement
The founding
The founding meeting of the Anti War Movement took place on January 18 2630. Since the Spaceship Council had declared martial law at that time, the meeting was illegal and took place secretly, in camera. This was because it would have been classified by the Council as “subversive of the armed forces” and was thus subject to the maximum penalty. The meeting, attended by seven charter members:
- Aisha Patel
- Sharon Nyokabi Awuor
- Dao Charoensuk
- Genghis Batyabar
- Ava Chandler
The founding meeting was held at Aisha Patel`s home. All attendants became members of the political party of the Communards after the Great War. They all got elected as council members to the first Federal Council of the Federal Confederation in the Gamma Age on planet VOI 700 D.
The first public appearance
The first action of the anti-war movement was the distribution of anti-war leaflets with the three main theses of the movement. The leaflet was dropped over the marketplaces of the New Kourou, Hope, and Morningstar communities in March 2630. Although the leaflet - as expected - was classified by the Spaceship Council as “subversive to the armed forces” and its publication was placed under maximum penalty, the theses quickly found many supporters among the starving population.
Increasing popularity
The first publication of the leaflet was followed by other similar actions, mainly focused on the soldiers of the People`s Army. As a result, the theses of the movement became more and more present in the minds and the motivation to prolong the war decreased significantly. In October 2630, for the first time, a People`s Army combat unit refused to carry out a “counterattack” planned by GAIA to burn down the Trando Tribe homeland settlement.
In addition, in the wake of the impulses of the Anti War Movement, other independent and anonymous cells emerged that published similar demands.
So that it can be said that by December 2630 at the latest, the vast majority of the population shared the Anti War Movement's opinion that the war should end. However, political actions did not follow.
The destruction of the solar sails and the end of the war
Although the majority of the population favored an end to the war, there was no absolute majority in the Spaceship Council. The reason for this was a GAIA calculation that the Native attacks would last only three more years and that the Tribes would be too weakened from that point on to continue attacking regularly. Therefore, there were some members in the council who accepted another 36 months of famine in order to put humanity in this strategically favorable position.
From this stalemate in the Council, the Anti War Movement took the reins to implement the people's will for peace. The members decided to engage in targeted acts of sabotage to end the war more quickly: On March 31, 2631, the solar sails burned in Hope, Morningstar and New Kourou, as they were set on fire by Anti War Movement saboteurs. From that moment on, it was impossible for the people to maintain their defenses for much longer.
The Army of Man surrendered. The war was over.
