MANDLA FRIEDBERG

Race and Faction

Background

Mandla Friedberg, originally named Tarun Karavashi Kaero Hokal, was born into the Honga, one of the Native Tribes of VOI 700 D. Revered for his strategic and physical prowess as a Honga warrior, he fought bravely during the Great War. However, a turning point came when he was critically injured in battle and, against orders, was rescued by a human medic, Eva Friedberg. This compassionate act profoundly changed his view of humans, fostering an alliance and ultimately a romantic bond.

Transition to ExoHuman Society

After the war, Mandla chose to leave his life as a warrior behind and joined the Federal Confederation as a citizen, adopting the name “Friedberg” in honor of his wife. His decision to integrate into ExoHuman society was driven by a vision of unity and reconciliation but was not without challenges.

Professional Career

Mandla Friedberg was the Deputy of Evander Rosenberg, who got elected in 2632 and was the first Federal Sheriff of the Federal Confederation, After Evander Rosenberg tragically was shot and killed in the line of duty in 2035, Mandla Friedberg, took over for him on an interim basis until the next election.

2636, in the first election since the death of Evander Rosenberg, Mandla ran as candidate of the Communard Party against Juri Hansen of the Individualist Party. Since Mandla had Honga roots, the election mobilized many voters – including those in the political camp of the Communards – who were opposed to a “representative of the occupying power” being given an important official position in the Federal Confederation. For this reason, the first round ended in a tie. For this reason, a second round of voting had to be held. This second election was narrowly won by Mandla Friedberg with 52 percent of the vote and strong support from Aisha Patel's government (also from the Communards party).

Acceptance Issues Among the Honga

Mandla’s decision to live among the ExoHumans and later become their Federal Sheriff sparked controversy within the Honga Tribe. Many viewed his actions as a betrayal of their traditions and values, questioning his loyalty to the tribe.

The Honga political leadership voiced concerns that Mandla’s position might be seen as interference in ExoHuman governance, potentially damaging the tribe’s relationships with other Native Tribes. Despite these reservations, Zaira Tal’Karavashi Loa, the Permanent Supervisor, advocated for Mandla, persuading the tribal leader not to veto his candidacy. She emphasized his potential to serve as a bridge between the two cultures, embodying the values of coexistence outlined in the Peace Treaty.

Family background and private life

Mandla Friedberg and his wife Eva Friedberg discovered they could not have children together and decided to adopt a child (Franklin Friedberg, *2630) who lost his parents in the Great War. This act of compassion symbolized their deep commitment to both each other and the broader mission of peace and unity between ExoHumans and Natives on VOI 700 D. Their adopted child has become a meaningful part of their family, showcasing the strength of their bond and shared values.

Symbol of Unity and Challenges in ExoHuman Society

While Mandla’s background makes him a powerful symbol of unity, it also subjects him to skepticism from both sides. Within the Honga, he is regarded with mixed feelings, and among ExoHumans, some settlers are wary of his Native roots. These dual challenges have only strengthened Mandla’s resolve to foster peace and understanding on VOI 700 D.
