MISTSPRING WATER INC. MANUFACTORY

Overview

Mistspring Water Inc. was established to bottle spring-fed water drawn from the pristine Arla River’s source outflows. Initially spurned by settlers who had abundant local water, the company found demand surged as industrial runoff and exohuman expansion degraded traditional supplies. Their signature 750 mL sealed flasks of Mistspring Water became a Quickdraw staple at 6 K per flask, alongside bulk 5 L and 10 L containers (7 K/14 K) for domestic and commercial use — a pricey necessity in a thirsty frontier.

Following the 2631 Peace Treaty and the rise of Communardist water policies, the Federal Confederation centralized distribution through Federal Allotment Centers in Firetown under the watch of the Federal Allotment Agency, while in Morningstar, New  Kourou, and Hope free, fresh water flowed from public Federal Fountains also maintained by the Federal Allotment Agency. Improved environmental controls have since restored regional water quality, ending the scarcity that birthed Mistspring.

Architectural Significance

  • Construction Materials: Local stone, insulated timber framing, and polished slate sourced from nearby quarries
  • Floors: Two levels — ground reception & bottling line, upper storage & quality lab
  • Design Purpose: Gravity-fed bottling system: spring intake to holding cisterns above the line, descending through sediment filters and UV sterilizers into filling valves.
  • Footprint: ~600 m² main hall with adjacent service annex for bulk-container staging
  • Environmental Integration: Green roofs planted with ferns; runoff channels rejoin the river below to maintain natural flow

Building Structure

Ground Floor

  • Intake Cisterns: Series of elevated cisterns capturing multiple spring outlets; initial coarse-filter grates remove debris
  • Sediment & UV Treatment: Multi-stage filters and UV tubes housed in a glass-lined trench beneath the cisterns
  • Bottling Line: Automated fill-and-crimp stations for 750 mL flasks; manual bulk-fill valves for 5 L & 10 L jerrycans
  • Quality Lab: On-site lab bench with hydrometers, spectrophotometer, and taste panel seating
  • Dispatch Bay: Roll-up door for carts New Kourou Courier Service; wide stone ramp leading to service road

Upper Floor

  • Bulk Storage: Shelves holding empty containers, crate pallets, and spare seals
  • Office & Control Room: Bottling metrics displayed on mechanical gauges; QC logs and courier schedules pinned to slate boards
  • Staff Break Area: Simple benches, purification taps for employee drinking water, and two composting AuroraSan restrooms

Exterior Grounds

  • Source Springs: Protected by sandstone housings and a low fence; gated access under license
  • Service Shed: Tool lockers, spare UV bulbs, filter canisters, and maintenance kits
  • Hoos Hitch & Cart Dock: Tether posts and chute rails for loading flasks onto courier carts of the New Kourou Courier Service.

Look and Feel

Visitors arrive to hear only dripping water and soft humming of turbines powering UV modules. Pale stone walls and polished wood beams contrast with the clear turquoise glow of spring outflows. Ferns drape from green roofs; slate floors are perpetually cool underfoot. Bottles clink rhythmically at the filling line while clerks taste-test and log every batch. The air smells of ozone and fresh water, a crisp reminder of why Mistspring’s claim rang true.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Founder & Water Master (1): Oversees intake quality, plant operations, and Free State compliance
  • Bottling Technicians (4): Run filtration, UV treatment, and flask/crate filling
  • QC Analysts (2): Test water samples, calibrate hydrometers, and manage taste panels
  • Dispatch Clerks (2): Schedule courier runs, load flasks/cartons, and maintain shipping ledgers

Public Access & Operations

  • Beta Age Access: Closed facility; bottled water sold through Frontier Quickdraws and wholesale to taverns and households
  • Gamma Age: Plant shuttered; site preserved for emergency reserve

Production Chain

  • Extraction: Gravity-fed springs → intake cisterns
  • Treatment: Coarse filter → sediment traps → UV sterilization
  • Bottling: Flask fill/crimp → crate → dispatch bay
  • Bulk Sales: Manual jerrycan filling for 5 L/10 L orders

Gamma Age

  • Reserve Storage: Backstocked unopened crates in sealed vault

Security Measures

  • Licensed Gate: Locked gate at spring source — only licensed staff hold keys

Player Interaction Possibilities

Purchase Signature Flask: Buy a 750 mL Mistspring Flask at a Frontier Quickdraw or bulk order 5/10 L canisters

Site Tour & Sampling: Official tours include tasting fresh spring source and spectrometer demos

Quality Audit: PCs hired to verify water purity for a new settlement or system upgrade

Illegal interactions

Tap the Source: Sabotage or divert spring outlets to deplete supply

Counterfeit Crates: Forge seals and sell subpar local water under the Mistspring brand

Smuggle Bulk: Secretly siphon jerrycans for black-market resale in remote camps

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

Source Siege: A rival clan raids the spring to poison or divert water; PCs must defend the intake.

Fountain Uprising: Local protesters block the Federal Fountain rollout, citing tradition; PCs mediate or escalate.

Emergency Release: A chemical spill downstream threatens settlements—PCs race to open the reserve vault and distribute cases before drought sets in.
