LOCAL COMMUNITY CENTER – ARLA TOWN

Overview

From its founding in late 2626 until destruction in early 2631, Arla Town’s Local Community Center served as the exohuman settlement’s administrative hub, public assembly hall, and referendum venue. It housed the elected Contact Person’s office, civil-registry archives, and two-week balloting booths. In its modest sub-basement lay the Arla Local GAIA Micro-Hub — a Tier-C “mini-GAIA” node offering basic permit services and emergency simulations. The building fell into ruin during the Great War and now stands overgrown among the remains of the fish factory and docks.

Architectural Significance

  • Construction Material: Prefabricated alloy-frame panels over locally sourced wood, with simple polyglass windows
  • Floors: Ground-floor foyer & assembly hall; second-floor offices & archives; shallow sub-basement GAIA alcove
  • Façade: Functional, modular panels with exposed wood struts—reflecting the settlement’s provisional purpose
  • Roof Fixtures: Short-wave signal antenna – connected to the Short Wave Radio Network – linking the Micro-Hub to the GAIA network

Building Structure

Sub-Basement – Arla GAIA Micro-Hub Alcove

  • Optical Module Rack: Single photonic processor bank in reinforced frame
  • Power & Cooling: Shared half-core QFB units (≈ 6 months autonomy)
  • Emergency Egress: 20 m lateral escape shaft leading to the Guarding Trooper Station
  • Access Control: Salvaged security door from the Last Frontier, guarded by a stationed Guarding Bot

Ground Floor – Public Foyer & Assembly Hall

  • Foyer: Bulletin boards, proposal drop-slots, and a single rugged holo-kiosk for basic GAIA queries
  • Assembly Hall: Simple bench rows facing a dais for the Contact Person
  • Referendum Booths: Two secure ballot stations; overseen by a Guarding Bot during votes
  • Public Restrooms: Two unisex stalls with AuroraSan fixtures

Second Floor – Administration & Records

  • Contact Person’s Office: Desk and visitor bench, basic holo-interface for referendum results and permit logs
  • Clerk’s Alcove: Civil-registry ledgers, land-title files, permit applications
  • Archive: Shelved scrolls, parchment deeds, and a small cache of Shellac Records containing occasional GAIA updates
  • Staff Restroom: One unisex stall with AuroraSan fixtures

Exterior Grounds

  • Courier Desk: Drop-off for official notices and GAIA query slips
  • Hoo Parking Zone: Tether posts for visiting and courier Hoos

Look and Feel

Perpetual twilight and a fine mist from Lake Arla’s infamous “Haze Doom” drift through simple polyglass windows into a utilitarian foyer scented of damp wood, fresh parchment — and the faint, briny tang of smoked fish. The hush of distant waves mingles with the soft whirr of the lone holo-kiosk. In the assembly hall, shafts of dusk-filtered light slant across worn wooden benches as settlers queue at the ballot booths, mist curling around their boots. Outside, Guarding Bots patrol silent circuits over weathered planks, their soft servo-whirrs the only indication of order in the mist-laden air.
