JANE MENDOZA
Race and Faction
- Age: born 2600 on the Last Frontier
- Affiliation: Jane Mendoza Gang, former Engineer and Live-Weapons Specialist in the Volunteer Army of Man
- Place of Residence: Jane Mendoza Gang's Headquarters
Background
Jane Mendoza is the daughter of Biruta Kralikas and Roberto Mendoza, third-generation humans on the Last Frontier starship. Jane’s childhood was marked by tragedy when her drug-addicted father killed her mother in 2605, a traumatic event she witnessed firsthand. Raised in “care of the community” aboard the Last Frontier, Jane never saw her father again.
Despite these difficult beginnings, Jane’s innate intelligence and drive set her apart. In 2619, she began her studies at the Last Frontier University, where she caught the attention of Professor Malek Vaross. Seeing her potential and feeling compassion for her tragic family story, Vaross offered Jane private lessons, helping her excel academically. Under his guidance, Jane graduated as the top engineering student in 2624, achieving accolades as one of the most promising graduates in the starship's history.
Following the crash landing on VOI 700 D, Jane joined Professor Vaross and his daughter Theresa in New Kourou, assisting him on several engineering projects that were vital to the fledgling settlement. Their collaboration ended when Jane decided to pursue her own career within the Free State of Settlers.
Jane’s engineering brilliance was later redirected to the frontlines during the Great War, where she served as a Live-Weapons Specialist for the Volunteer Army of Man. Her innovations were both admired and feared, earning her recognition as a pivotal figure in the war’s technological advancements.
However, Jane did not agree with the actions of the Anti-War Movement that led to the surrender of the Volunteer Army of Man and the signing of the Peace Treaty. To her, the Exohuman settlers did not lose the war against their enemies; they lost it against themselves. She expressed this sentiment during a speech at the founding assembly of the Individualist Party, declaring: “We lost because we betrayed our strength, our purpose, and our future.” These speeches and her growing influence drew the ire of the Federal Confederation. In 2631, the Federal Court accused her of incitement to hatred and sentenced her to four years of labor punishment at the Federal Copper Mine.
Jane considered this judgment proof that the Federal Confederation was a “brainwashed society without free speech.” She escaped the system shortly after being sentenced and founded the Jane Mendoza Gang, vowing to fight back against what she saw as the Confederation's oppressive regime.
Currently, Jane is wanted for a series of severe crimes, including robbery-murder, manslaughter, extortion, and kidnapping, and is believed to reside in the Zark Tribes’ cave system on the Dark Side of VOI 700 D.
