HEADQUARTERS OF THE TRADE GUILD OF NEW KOUROU

Overview

The Trade Guild of New Kourou was the most powerful Trade Guild within the Free State of Settlers, acting as a stabilizing force in an otherwise volatile frontier economy. Consisting of local merchants, supraregional trade organizations, and entrepreneurs, the guild regulated commerce, maintained supply chain stability, and organized trade logistics — including operating its own Courier Service.

Although not an official government body, the Trade Guild held immense social and political influence, often regarded by settlers as the real leadership of the Free State of Settlers. Guild members commanded public trust far more than politicians or former government figures.

The Headquarters operated until 2631, when the founding of the Federal Confederation and the introduction of Communardism led to the abolition of private trade and entrepreneurship. The Trade Guild was disbanded, and the building was repurposed.

In 2632, the Headquarters — along with the adjacent Courier Station — was rebuilt as the Headquarters of the Federal Courier Service, a state-run logistics and postal authority under the new federal system.

Look and Feel

Inside, the Trade Guild Headquarters felt nothing like a polished corporate hall — it was a hushed, windowless chamber of influence built from stacked, weather-stained container walls. Lanterns cast a muted glow across desks, trade maps, and coil-bound ledgers. Humidity pressed in from the jungle outside, softened only by slow ceiling fans and a few hardy tropical plants in metal planter boxes.

Visitors stepping through the entrance were met not by openness, but by controlled quiet. Conversations dropped to whispers; A Guarding Bot tracked each movement with a soft pneumatic whirr. The atmosphere carried a subtle tension — deals here could shape settlements, ration prices, even courier safety.

On meeting days, the building grew restless. Merchants in mud-stained boots argued softly in clustered circles, couriers queued with manifests, and the chairman’s announcements rolled through the hall like distant thunder. Yet even then, the room never felt loud. It felt watchful, as if the Guild itself listened, weighed, and judged every word spoken beneath its metal ribs.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Elected Chairman of the Trade Guild (1): Led the organization, presided over meetings, represented the Guild at public events and press conferences.
  • Guild Officers (4–5): Managed trade regulations, certifications, courier logistics, and internal administration.
  • Butler Bot (1): Logged all visitor entries, issued guest passes, managed meeting schedules, and offered public information.
  • Maintenance Contractor (rotating): Responsible for building upkeep and exhibition changes.

Public Access, Operating Hours and Operational Rhythm

  • Public Access: Visitors could access the ground floor exhibition area during regular office hours. Entry beyond required registration and approval by the Butler Bot.

  • Operational Rhythm: Routine commerce during the week; monthly surges tied to the Trade Guild meetings and exhibitions.

Security Measures

  • Guarding Bot Presence: One Guarding Bot was stationed near the exhibition area during public press conferences. Armed with a non-lethal Guarding Trooper Stun Gun to ensure crowd control if necessary.
  • Regular Patrols: Guarding Troopers patrolled the building’s vicinity several times daily.
  • Visitor Tracking: Every visitor was logged by the Butler Bot with time-stamped registration, ensuring accountability.
  • Secure Office Access: Entry to the second and third floors was restricted to credentialed personnel.
  • Attend exhibitions and learn about newly discovered resources or technologies
  • Listen to or participate in monthly press conferences
  • Request financial support for a business or expedition
  • Network with influential merchants or investors

Illegal Interactions:

  • Sabotage or steal new technology showcased in the exhibitions
  • Hack a Butler Bot technician to manipulate guest logs
  • Spy on private negotiations between powerful merchant families

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

The Trade Guild Headquarters is ideal for political intrigue, economic sabotage, or information heists. It can serve as:

  • A hub for overhearing secret pacts between settlers and off-world merchants.
  • A target for radical factions opposed to capitalism even before Communardism.
  • The final public stage for a major NPC merchant family before their downfall in the Gamma Age.
  • A location where players must recover — or erase — a crucial trade document before the Confederation shuts it all down.
