FIRETOWN DARTS CLUB

Overview

  • Location: Public Services Ring, Firetown
  • Address: NW Public Services Ring Road 6
  • Surroundings: Situated amidst the lively yet shadowy Firetown Entertainment District, adjacent to the Firetown Billards Saloon.

Founded in 2628 by famed gambler Felix Linda — the same “luckiest man away from Earth” who launched Fire Bill — the Firetown Darts Club quickly became the go-to spot for spirited matches of steel-tip darts, light wagers, and spirited banter. Though never as large as its billiard-hall neighbor, its single floor and tight layout fostered an intimacy that kept regulars coming back for both the challenge and the camaraderie.

After the Great War and the advent of Communardism, Supreme Councilor Aisha Patel’s regime sought to close the entire Entertainment District. Former Mayor James Mc Antie successfully lobbied for a special exemption—securing continued operation for Firetown Darts Club alongside Saloon Gloria and Fire Bill under Federal Confederation ownership and special permits. These venues maintained their informal, walk-in style but now adhere to Gamma Age regulations, including strict drink and game-entry limits. Felix Linda himself was reassigned as a lumberjack in Morningstar, lamenting the “end of luck” as he left his establishments behind.

Architectural Significance

  • Construction Materials: Dark volcanic stone from the Ralar volcano, with reinforced door frames scavenged from decommissioned mining outposts
  • Floors: 1
  • Design: Compact single-hall layout centered on three dart lanes and a raised scoring platform, optimized for quick play and social interaction
  • Lighting and Heating: Geothermal-powered floor vents provide warmth; overhead chandeliers with candles cast focused pools of light over each lane.

Building Structure

Interior and Atmosphere

  • Dart Lanes (3): Steel-tip boards mounted on reinforced basalt walls, each with a leather-cushioned bench for spectators. Chalk-scored wooden slates track game points.
  • Stools & Tables: Frames made of reclaimed wood with dartboards as table top - screwed to the floor so that they cannot be knocked over so easily.
  • Bar Nook: A corner counter operated by Space Drinks Inc. in the Beta Age; in Gamma Age, only Water is official — illicit spiked drinks require code phrases.
  • Mixer Booth: Small service window where patrons exchange Kourou (Beta Age) or Allotment Cards (Gamma Age) for game chips or submit hush-hush requests to the Jane Mendoza Gang.
  • Restrooms (2): Two unisex stalls with AuroraSan fixture tucked behind the bar nook.

Exterior

  • Façade: Simple volcanic-stone frontage with a faded painted sign of three crossed darts. A single iron lantern hangs beside the door — always lit in the Beta Age, switched off in Gamma.

Look and Feel

Beta Age

Inside, the clack of darts hitting cork boards mixes with laughter and friendly taunts. Warm air carries the scent of resin-worn wood, spilled Space Beer, and chewing tobacco. The benches fill quickly with miners, traders, and adventurers testing their aim — and their luck. Here, victories are toasted, losses forgotten, and everyone leaves talking about the next match.

Gamma Age

Under Communardism, the Darts Club feels muted but defiant. Only Water and official Allotment Cards show at the bar — yet the most daring patrons whisper code phrases (“three bulls, no misses”) to receive a hidden shot of spiked liquor. In the corner, discreet exchanges of small vials signal the Jane Mendoza Gang’s drug trade. Shadows lengthen around the lanes as players keep their eyes — and their secrets — focused on the board.

Roles and Responsibilities

Beta Age

  • Felix Linda (Founder & Matchmaster): Scheduled leagues, settled disputes, and awarded nightly prizes.
  • Butler Bot (1): The Butler Bots - operated by Space Drinks Inc. – serves drinks and delivers snack trays.
  • Bouncer (1): Kept order during heated matches and intervened in occasional scuffles.
  • Cleaning Bot (1): The Cleaning Bot cleared dart fragments and wiped down benches between games.

Gamma Age

  • Federal Host (1): Enforces Allotment Card limits and monitors for unlicensed alcohol.
  • Security Officer (1): Verifies patron credentials and oversees covert drug-trade coordination.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

The Firetown Darts Club provides a balance of light-hearted recreation and subtle intrigue. Use the club to incorporate dart games as dexterity-based challenges, with potential rewards for success.

Adventure Hook Beta Age Example

  • Vanished Farmer – Late one evening, Jacob Lenz, a devoted father and farmer from Hope, slipped away with a friend for a quick night out in Firetown’s Entertainment District. Their bar‑hop ended at the neon‑lit dive known as Kittens from Space, where Jacob’s last coherent words were “I need to chat with Madama Talara.” When he didn’t rejoin his friend, panic set in. Another witness places Jacob, Madama Talara, and an unknown man entering the notorious Saloon Gloria. Now his desperate wife has hired you to retrace his steps through Firetown’s seedier spots, unearth what happened behind those swinging doors, and bring her husband home — alive, if he still is …

Adventure Hook Example Gamma Age

  • Infiltration Orders – The Federal Sheriff assembles a team of “common people” handpicked by GAIA for a covert mission. Their objective is to locate the Jane Mendoza Gang’s hidden headquarters in the perpetual darkness of the Ralar Region. Under the pretense of seeking initiation, the PCs must contact the gang’s recruiter — rumored to meet in Saloon Gloria’s closed Room 7. They will exchange coded riddles on battered napkins and trade Kourou to prove their worth without revealing their true allegiance. Success means pinpointing the gang’s lair; failure could mean vanishing into Ralar’s dark tunnels forever.
