FEDERAL HOSTEL AND SALOON OF MORNINGSTAR

Overview

The Federal Hostel and Saloon (FHAS) of Morningstar is part of the standardized FHAS facilities across the Federal Confederation. Like its counterparts, it combines accommodation for travelers with a regulated cultural venue.

The FHAS system was introduced in 2633 under the Communard Government Administration of Supreme Councilor Aisha Patel, following the Peace Treaty of 2631. It replaced the free-market pubs and hotels of the Beta Age, ensuring communal ownership, energy efficiency, and equitable access.

Morningstar’s FHAS reflects the settlement’s timber-based economy and agrarian Communard identity. It provides essential housing for loggers, couriers, and visiting officials, while its saloon functions as a rustic cultural hub in the humid equatorial climate.

Architectural Significance

  • Construction Materials: Locally sourced timber and stone, sustainably harvested and quarried
  • Floors: Two-storey structure with hostel above, saloon and reception below
  • Design Purpose: Resembles a sturdy timber lodge, reflecting pioneer heritage and community resilience
  • Climatic Adaptation: High ceilings and cross-ventilation keep the building cool in the humid equatorial environment
  • Lighting: Candles and simple lamps create a warm and rustic atmosphere

Building Structure

Ground Floor

  • Reception Area: Manages hostel check-ins and saloon access
  • Saloon: Wooden-furnished communal hall for cultural events, seating up to 60 patrons per slot
  • Dining Room: Guests consume meals from the Federal Canteen or their Weekly Food Basket rations; no private cooking permitted under the Civil Code
  • Toilets: Facilities equipped with the AuroraSan System

Second Floor

  • Shared Rooms: Two dormitories with 30 double beds each (capacity: 60 travelers)
  • Service & Maintenance Area: Bedding storage, cleaning supplies, and staff break room

Look and Feel

The Morningstar FHAS feels like a communal lodge: timber beams, stone flooring, and open-air courtyards filled with voices of travelers and workers. The saloon hums with storytelling and rustic music, while the hostel dormitories offer simple but solid rest.

Hostel Facilities

  • Capacity: 60 travelers in shared dormitories
  • Typical Guests: Federal Courier Service staff, timber workers, and government employees
  • Dining: Midday meals at the Federal Canteen; breakfast and dinner via Weekly Food Basket rations in the dining hall

Saloon as Cultural Hub

The saloon emphasizes Morningstar’s communal traditions and cultural resilience.

  • Performances: Storytelling, folk music, and GAIA-curated performances by local amateur artists
  • Allotment Cards: Citizens receive two drinks daily, with a maximum of one alcoholic beverage
  • Capacity: 60 patrons per slot, creating an intimate atmosphere

  • Cultural Sabotage: An enemy faction targets the saloon to undermine Morningstar’s communal spirit
