DEPUTY AKSHAY JACOBS

Race and Faction

Background

Akshay Jacobs was born aboard the spaceship Last Frontier in 2599 into a deeply religious family belonging to the Covenant of the New Dawn, a Christian minority movement among the ExoHuman settlers. The Covenant of the New Dawn views the crash landing on VOI 700 D as a trial set forth by God, meant to test humanity’s ability to steward a new world with wisdom and restraint—redeeming themselves for the failures of Earth’s past.

Akshay's mother, Esther Jacobs, is a pastor within the New Kourou chapter of the movement. Since spirituality is considered a private matter under the Federal Confederation, the Covenant has no public churches or religious institutions. Instead, members gather in private homes to worship, study scripture, and discuss their faith. These gatherings are tolerated but not officially recognized, and members of the movement must carefully navigate their beliefs within the constraints of Communard society.

Growing up, Akshay embraced his faith but also sought a balance between his spiritual beliefs and his duties as a citizen. He viewed GAIA's governance and the principles of the Federal Confederation—particularly its emphasis on harmony with nature and communal living—as aligned with his own religious perspective. He saw the landing on VOI 700 D as divine punishment for humanity’s reckless treatment of Earth but also as an opportunity for redemption—a second chance to prove that mankind could live in balance with its environment and other living beings.

Due to his pacifist beliefs, Akshay refused to join the Volunteer Army of Man during the Great War, a decision that made him an outsider among some of his peers. However, he supports the Confederation's vision of coexistence and accepted his assignment as a Deputy of the Federal Sheriff with a sense of duty. Unlike many other Deputies, Akshay does not see his role as an enforcer of authority but rather as a guardian of peace and stability—protecting settlements from crime while ensuring that the laws of the Confederation are upheld with fairness and understanding.
