THE HUMAN SOCIETY AND SOCIAL SUBCULTURES IN THE GAMMA AGE

The society of the Humans on planet VOI 700 D in the Gamma Age is shaped primarily by the terms and growth restrictions of the Peace Treaty with the Native Tribes.

The two main political currents of human society

Politically, society is divided primarily into two camps: Voters of the Communards Party and voters and supporters of the Individualist Party. While Communards voters accept the terms of the Peace Treaty as “the price people have to pay for their previous behavior,” Individualists are much more critical of the inferior role people have found themselves in since the end of the war. This discrepancy is strongly related to the fact that “Communards” and “Individualists” have a completely contrary understanding of what it means to “be human.”

The individualists believe in free competition and market. For them, it is the key to social prosperity and progress. Based on this competitive thinking, the individualists see humanity as a superior culture to the Natives. Because humans are technologically light years ahead of the Natives. The Communards, on the other hand, are convinced that man is a deficient being who - as the example of the Earth shows for them - always destroys his own habitat in the medium to long term. Similar to a plague. For this reason, the Communards believe that man must be educated to learn to live in harmony with nature and other peoples.

Moreover, Individualists and Communards also differ glaringly in their view of the so-called “voluntary surrender” of the people in the Great War: for the Communards, from whose ranks the surrender was imitated in the form of an act of sabotage, surrender has been the “only reasonable solution” to make coexistence of Natives and people possible in the long run. For the supporters of the Individualists, capitulation was treason. From their perspective, the Native Tribes would never have won on their own against the Natives. Therefore, they do not really recognize the Peace Treaty and all governmental decisions that derive from it.

Other social groups and currents

In addition to these two main currents, there are other smaller subcultures within human society.

  • The Outlaws: The Outlaws are even more radical individualists than the members of the Party of Individualists. For this reason, they have gäntlich dropped out of human society and live in criminal gangs off the reservation.
  • The Desert People: The Desert People form a small but extremely extreme subculture of extreme individuals. Since they do not want to conform to the laws of the government, but do not want to become criminals, they have retreated to the Desert Side.
  • The Human Natives: The Human Natives chose to live among the Native Tribes as a means to foster unity and enlightenment. Some were prisoners of war during the Great War, while others were defectors who chose to align themselves more closely with the Natives.
