SEED DRONES
Seed Drones were lightweight aerial machines originally deployed for agricultural and logistical support aboard the Exohuman spaceship Last Frontier. In the Beta Age, After the crash, these drones became essential to farmers in the Hope Region on VOI 700 D.
Three key models were used:
- Flying Seed Drones — designed to scatter seeds across wide terrain, enabling rapid crop restoration.
- Courier Drones — short-range delivery bots for distributing medical supplies, tools, and lightweight parts.
- Combat Drones — autonomous defense units designed for escort missions and perimeter protection during planetary exploration. Equipped with light weaponry and GAIA-AUX targeting systems.
These drones were originally built on Earth by Olympia Cybernetics, a megacorporation specializing in humanoid robotics and adaptive AI.
History and Development
The Last Frontier Era
- Developed by Olympia Cybernetics, a leading Earth-based megacorp known for humanoid robotics and adaptive AI.
- Seed Drones were considered auxiliary utility units, used to support agriculture and maintenance operations.
- Onboard the Last Frontier, they were maintained by the Frontier Engineering Corps (FEC), which ensured compliance with GAIA’s operational protocols through regular firmware updates.
Of the original units brought aboard the ship:
- 80 Seed Drones
- 120 Courier Drones
- 2.000 Combat Drones
The Beta Age: Agricultural Lifeline
- During the crash, 38 Seed Drones, 101 Courier Drones and 1.140 Combat Drones were destroyed or burned.
- The remaining 42 Seed Drones were salvaged and recovered by a company called Drones of Hope Inc., founded by a former FEC engineer.
- These drones were sold to local farmers, usually bundled with a maintenance contract, allowing efficient reseeding of devastated croplands.
The Gamma Age: Ban and Underground Persistence
- Following the formation of the Federal Confederation, Supreme Councilor Aisha Patel banned drone use in 2631 under the Peace Treaty, citing their excessive energy consumption.
- Drones of Hope Inc. was nationalized shortly before the ban.
- Despite federal efforts, some drones were hidden by Hope settlers or fell into criminal hands in Firetown.
- In 2633, the Jane Mendoza Gang raided the Federal Technical Recycling Plant and stole several remaining drone units.
Appearance and Features
- Size: Comparable to a large bird or quadcopter (approx. 60 cm wingspan).
- Frame: Lightweight carbon-polymer body with adaptive folding wings.
- Power Source: Powered by Micro-Grade Quantum Fusion Battery (QFB) cells, with a flight range of up to 12 km. Recharged every 24–36 hours, depending on seeding intensity and terrain complexity.
- Payload Systems: Internal seed dispersal pod and atmospheric sensors.
- AI Module: Simple GAIA-AUX-compatible navigation AI, capable of terrain mapping and route optimization.
Technical Specifications for Gameplay
- Armor Class (AC): 15 (fast and airborne)
- Hit Points (HP): 25
- Speed: 60 feet (flying)
- Primary Role: Agriculture
Actions:
- Rapid Dispersal Mode (Flying Seed Drone Only) | Effect: Seeds a 30-ft square area in a single action. Terrain becomes fertile in 1d6 days if weather is suitable.
- Evade Pattern Alpha | Reaction: When targeted by a ranged attack, gains +3 AC until the start of its next turn.
Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
Beta Age: Potential Storylines and Encounters
- Seeds of Desperation: A broke farmer hires the players to steal a Seed Drone from the facility, unable to afford one through legal channels. The heist reveals deeper questions of equity and survival in the post-crash economy.
Gamma Age: Potential Storylines and Encounters
- Fungal Field Sabotage: The Jane Mendoza Gang has deployed a modified Seed Drone to cultivate genetically enhanced Luminofera Dualis mushrooms in a hidden plot deep in the Tropical Forest. The mushrooms are the base for a potent new drug. The PCs must locate the field, destroy the crops, and disable the Seed Drone before distribution begins.
