PHARMACY OF HOPE

Overview

The Pharmacy of Hope was the primary dispensary for the settlement of Hope. Fully automated with no Exohuman staff, it relied on Butler Bots to verify prescriptions, process payments, and dispense every vial and tablet.

It served both private patients (B2C) and institutional clients (B2B), including the nearby Medical Station. Roughly 80 % of its stock — capsules, nano‑vials, vaccine cards, and more — came straight from Schreder Pharma Inc. in New Kourou. All products were strictly prescription‑only, with each script scanned and approved by the on‑duty Butler Bot.

After the establishment of the Federal Confederation in 2631, all medicine production and distribution were nationalized under the Federal Pharma Manufactory and supervised by the Federal Allotment Agency. Former pharmacies were phased out in favor of direct drops to clinics and hospitals.

Architectural Significance

  • Construction Material: A single, repurposed cargo container salvaged from the Last Frontier, reinforced with external steel ribs, welded patch plates, and timber braces sunk into a low stone footing to keep it above Hope’s mud.
  • Floors: 1 (container interior, uninterrupted length)
  • Façade: One long side of the container has been cut open and folded outward to form a reinforced dispensing window and shallow canopy. The original hull paint is scorched, chipped, and overpainted with faded medical markings and hazard stripes. Serial numbers and burn scars from re-entry remain visible.
  • Design Purpose: Extreme efficiency and control. The container format allows strict inventory security, climate control, and rapid replacement if damaged. The building reads as infrastructure first, not a place of comfort.

Building Structure

  • Street-Facing Counter Window: The only public interface. A wide rectangular cut-out in the container wall, fitted with a sliding metal shutter. The Butler Bot validates prescriptions, takes Kourou payments, and dispenses medication directly through this window. Two bolted-down shuttle seats stand in front of the container as a makeshift waiting niche.
  • Rear Stock Compartment (inside the container): Climate-controlled racks and drawer towers for nano-vials, blister strips, and infusion packs. A short internal conveyor or simple rail system allows the Butler Bot to quickly move medication from storage to the counter window. Access to the rear is through a narrow service door on the opposite side of the container, used only by maintenance personnel and Guarding Bots.

Look and Feel

The Pharmacy of Hope feels more like a sealed machine than a shop.

Under the settlement’s perpetual twilight, cold white task-lighting spills from the open container wall, cutting a sharp rectangle into the muddy Seedway. Rain beads on the scorched hull plates and drips from the folded metal canopy, tapping steadily onto the wooden street planks below. Faded warning glyphs and pharmaceutical stencils glow faintly where light catches chipped paint.

Inside, everything is tight, precise, and metallic. Steel dispensing rails, sealed chutes, and alloy drawers line the container walls from floor to ceiling. The Butler Bot moves with minimal motion — efficient, silent, almost clinical — scanning prescriptions and sliding medication packs through reinforced slots without ceremony. The air is cool and dry, deliberately stripped of scent: no herbs, no antiseptic haze, just filtered air and the faint hum of climate units buried beneath the floor plates.

Outside, patients wait shoulder to shoulder in the narrow strip of street, boots sunk into damp wood and mud. From one side comes the noise and heat of Old Netter’s Rest — shouting, laughter, the crash of a fight. From the other, the controlled calm of the Medical Station of Hope. Between them, the pharmacy stands impassive: a neutral spine of order, dispensing survival one blister pack at a time.

It is not welcoming. It is reliable.

Roles and Responsibilities

Human Oversight

  • State Pharmacology Officer (1, off-site): Audits inventory, approves procurement contracts with Schreder Pharma, and authorises price lists.

Automated Staff

  • Butler Bot – Dispensing (1): Validates prescriptions, collects payment, issues medication, and provides basic dosage counselling.
  • Cleaning Bot (1): A Cleaning Bot maintained sterile floors, counter surfaces, and rear storage aisles after each business day.

Public Access, Operating Hours and Operational Rhythm

  • Public Access: Prescription holders only; QR‑coded scripts scanned at arrival kiosk.
  • Operating Hours: Monday–Saturday 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM; emergency intercom service 5:00 PM – 11:00 PM.

Daily Flow:

  • Early‑morning pneumatic restock via New Kourou Courier Service.
  • Mid‑day routine pick‑ups and B2B bulk drops to clinics.
  • At 5:15 PM, a second Guarding Bot escorts the day’s credits to the Hope Homeland Bank.

Security Measures

  • Guarding Bot Presence: One unit stationed inside the doorway during all open hours. It was armed with a Guarding Troopers Stun Gun
  • Prescription Verification: Counter software cross-checks hospital records to prevent duplicate fills.
  • Trooper Patrols: Guarding Troopers passed the storefront once per shift as part of the route.
  • Escorted Revenue-Transfer: A second Guarding Bot collected the day’s Kourou takings in a lock-box and escorts them to the New Homeland Bank.

Illegal activities:

  • Present a valid prescription and pick up your meds
  • Ask the Butler Bot for dosage advice or check for possible contra‑indications.
  • Set up a standing refill order for chronic‑care meds (B2C) or arrange a weekly bulk drop for the hospital or Medical Station (B2B).
  • Deliver drugs as a cart driver for the New  Kourou Courier Service.

Illegal activities:

  • Hack the Butler Bot to dispense restricted nano-painkillers.
  • Bribe the Guarding Bot’s maintainer to turn a blind eye during a late-night break-in.
  • Forge scripts to siphon black-market stimulants.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

The Pharmacy is perfect for stealthy thefts, moral quandaries over medicine scarcity, or hostage‑style standoffs when someone needs drugs the system won’t dispense.

Adventure Hook Example

  • Counterfeit Crisis: Fake NeuroCalm floods Hope, causing mysterious overdoses. The party must trace the counterfeit supply chain back to its source before panic spirals into full‑blown hysteria.
