KLAUS WEBER

Race and Faction

Background

Klaus Weber was born in 2580 aboard the spaceship Last Frontier into a family with deep roots in engineering and leadership. His father, Siegfried Weber, was a prominent engineer responsible for the X-ray communications system of the Last Frontier, which enabled secure data exchanges with observation stations on Earth. His mother, Hana Takahashi, held a PhD in Biology and was elected twice as a member of the Starship Council, where she helped shape key policies for the ship’s survival and governance.

As their only child, Klaus inherited his parents’ intellectual curiosity and technical brilliance. He quickly became one of the most talented engineers of his generation at Last Frontier University. However, unlike many of his peers, Klaus declined the opportunity to pursue a PhD, insisting that he was more of a “hands-on inventor” than an academic. His passion lay in solving practical problems and building real-world solutions.

The Visionary Inventor

Following the crash-landing on VOI 700 D in 2625, the high-tech communication networks of the Exohumans were destroyed. Klaus Weber recalled his studies on 20th-century shortwave communication networks on Earth and realized that a similar system could be adapted for the harsh conditions on the new planet.

In 2626, Klaus pitched his concept for a Shortwave Communication Network and a corresponding Shortwave Communication Device (SWRWC) to the Settler`s Council of the Free State of Settlers. His plan was approved, and Klaus transitioned from engineer to entrepreneur, founding the Weber Communication Company (WCC) to build the network and manufacture the devices. He also launched the Weber Broadcasting Services (WBS) to serve as a cultural and informational hub for the settlers. His vision was not only to restore communication but also to unite the settlers and preserve their shared cultural identity in their new home.

Role During the Great War (2628–2630)

Despite his pacifist beliefs and close ties to the Honga Tribe—Klaus spoke fluent Honga and had been married to a Honga woman who tragically died during the war—his inventions were repurposed for military use during the Great War. The Guarding Troopers and Volunteer Army of Man (VAM) relied heavily on the Weber for battlefield communication and tactical coordination.

The war deeply disillusioned Klaus. Seeing his creations used for violence and destruction conflicted with his principles and broke his spirit. The death of his wife only compounded his grief and left him questioning humanity’s capacity for peace.

Post-War Transition and Life at the Atrana Mountain Communication Outpost (2631–Present)

After the signing of the Peace Treaty in 2631, the Weber Communication Company and Weber Broadcasting Services were nationalized and merged into the Federal News Agency (FNA). Klaus welcomed this transition, seeing it as an opportunity to leave behind the burden of entrepreneurship and the painful memories of the war.

In a surprising move, Klaus personally applied for a position as a technician at the Atrana Mountain Communication Outpost—a remote, wind-powered relay station in the Atrana Mountains, known as the “Lighthouse.” There, Klaus dedicated himself to maintaining the shortwave communication network, embracing a simpler, more peaceful life away from politics and conflict. His hands-on work earned him the nickname “The Godfather of Communication” among the few who knew of his pivotal role.

Current Role

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the maintenance and operation of the shortwave communication network.
  • Performs repairs and upgrades on communication systems, ensuring reliable long-range communication.
