COMMUNARDISM

Overview

Communardism is the economic and social system of the Exohuman Federal Confederation on VOI 700 D during the Gamma Age, established by the Communards after the Great War. Rooted in equality, sustainability, and shared responsibility, Communardism seeks to create a society free of economic disparities while prioritizing resource conservation and ecological balance.

Developed under the guidance of Supreme Councilor Aisha Patel, Communardism replaced the Human Settlement Plan (HSP) and the traditional capitalist model of the Free State of Settlers with an economy focused on meeting the needs of all citizens without pursuing unchecked growth. The system is deeply integrated with the AI GAIA, which manages planning, allocation, and labor assignments to ensure efficiency and fairness.

Principles of Communardism

Communardism operates on the following core principles:

  • Economic Equality: There are no economic differences in society—only varied roles and responsibilities. All citizens are entitled to equal housing, nutrition, and daily necessities, ensuring a dignified life for everyone.
  • Allotment-Based Resource Distribution: The Federal Allotment Agency issues allotment cards for food, housing, and other necessities, replacing traditional currency.
  • Resource distribution is tailored to individual needs, such as caloric requirements for physical labor or specific dietary needs due to allergies.
  • Sustainability Over Growth: Unlike capitalist systems, Communardism eschews growth for its own sake, producing only what is required to meet current needs. Economic activities are centered on preserving the planet’s ecological integrity for future generations.
  • AI-Guided Efficiency: GAIA, the advanced AI system, ensures optimal resource use and labor distribution, minimizing waste while maintaining productivity.

The Annual Plan and GAIA's Role

The Annual Plan, orchestrated by GAIA, is the cornerstone of Communardism. It encompasses all aspects of the economy, from production to labor allocation.

Planning Economic Output:

GAIA calculates the production needs for the next 12 months, specifying what goods and services are required and determining the most efficient means of achieving these outputs. The plan ensures that resources are used sustainably while meeting the needs of the population.

Labor and Training Assignments:

GAIA assigns jobs to citizens based on their skills and the economy’s needs, ensuring efficient labor distribution. The system also forecasts future labor demands, assigning training pathways for adolescents to prepare them for roles that will be vital in the coming years.

Balancing Needs and Resources:

GAIA’s algorithms take individual requirements into account, ensuring fair access to necessities while adhering to the limits of available resources.

Civic Duties in Communardism

Citizens are required to fulfill the roles assigned to them under GAIA’s Annual Plan. This system ensures that every individual contributes to society according to their abilities and the community’s needs. ==== Legal Framework for Employment ====

The civic duties of citizens are codified in Section 11 of the Civil Code:

  • Every citizen is guaranteed work opportunities and is expected to contribute through their assigned roles.
  • Job security and equal access to employment are fundamental rights.

Labor Rights and Conditions:

  • Fair working conditions, reasonable hours, and access to social security are safeguarded.
  • Wages are replaced with allotment cards, ensuring equality in resource access.

Feedback Mechanisms:

  • Citizens can provide input on job assignments, allowing the system to consider individual preferences within the constraints of the Annual Plan.

Refusal to fulfill assigned roles is a prosecutable offense under the Civil Code, ensuring the system’s integrity and communal cooperation.

Historical background and context

Born from a community of travelers

Communardism has its roots on the multigenerational spaceship Last Frontier. For there were no economic differences among the travelers. All had the same size cabins or square meters per person, everyone wore the same space suit and food was provided by the same canteen. All people were also able to use the leisure facilities on board equally. Duties among passengers were also distributed aboard the Last Frontier by AI GAIA according to talent and need. Everyone had to do what they did best to generate added value for the community.

Those who refused to perform their assigned tasks were sanctioned according to a fixed set of rules. For example, use of the recreational facilities could be canceled or one was allotted fewer calories.

Most people of the Gamma Age have internalized these basic principles of living together on the spaceship, since they have spent most of their lives under these special conditions or at least were influenced by them in their childhood.

Rediscovered by a guilty conscience

After the humans landed on the planet VOI 700 D in the year 2625, everyone wanted to get rid of the narrow, equalizing social and economic conditions of the spaceship as quickly as possible. Everyone wanted as much individual freedom as possible and to live their own dreams. This led to a conflict with the Native Tribes and resulted in the Great War.

At the end of the war, when the humans stood there as losers and for a short time it was clear that they had forfeited their right to stay on the new planet, there was a return to the values of the time on the spaceship. People began to be ashamed of how they had behaved “in the rush after landing,” as the first head of the Federal Confederation government Aisha Patel formulated it in her famous keynote address "On New Beginnings After the End."

Moreover, the peace treaty required people to absolutely renounce growth and waste of resources.

From this basic sentiment, the Communard party, after the establishment of the Federal Confederation, developed the economic form of the Communardim, based on the social and economic values of the time on the spaceship.
