Alpha Age – In the closed ecosystem of the Last Frontier honey-bees proved unviable. Ship agronomists replaced them with “Nano-Apis”: micro-sized food-grade nanoswarms that harvested hydroponic floral sugars and converted them — inside a sterile bio-reactor — into a thick, shelf-stable syrup: Nano-Honey. Crew used it as a universal sweetener, first-aid sealant, and rapid-energy ration.
Beta Age – The recipe was recreated in 2625 in the Hope-Region. Compact reactors (≈ 1 m³) yielded 25 kg per week, powering everything from ration bars to Krupnik Gold. Because the nanoswarm required precise charge-cycling, production was energy-hungry and strictly centralised.
Gamma Age – In 2631 the Federal Confederation banned Nano-Honey. The Federal Council claimed its reactors consumed “non-essential kilowatt-hours” and pushed settlements toward “organic, low-entropy apiculture substitutes” (sap syrups, fruit purées). All nano-reactors were seized; a few disappeared into outlaw hands.

Banned but Beloved – Post-ban, Outlaw chemists of the Jane Mendoza Gang tinker with “Micro-Honey” knock-offs that often spoil or harbour rogue nanites (Con save DC 13 or take 1d4 poison dmg).
