VIREL SPICE
Overview
Virel Spice is a vivid green seasoning native to the river valleys of the Asari Region on VOI 700 D. Known for its sweet-citrus freshness, it was long cultivated by the Native Tribes for ritual drinks and light meals. Called *“Vir’elan”* (“green breath”) in tribal dialects, it symbolized vitality and renewal.
When Exohumans arrived, Virel was quickly embraced for drinks, salads, and sweet-sour marinades, becoming one of the first seasonings to cross into Beta Age kitchens.

Native Use & Cultural Significance
The Native Tribes infused Virel in ceremonial drinks served during seasonal rites, believing it brought balance to the body’s “inner waters.” Crushed Virel leaves were also applied in poultices for mild fevers.
ExoHuman Use in the Beta Age
Settlers in Hope dried Virel leaves into powders or steeped them in teas. It quickly became a staple for salads and beverages, offering a refreshing taste compared to heavier frontier stews. Last Frontier University chefs experimented with Virel cocktails, juices, and pickled vegetable brines.
Virel Spice in the Gamma Age
By the Gamma Age, Virel cultivation was nationalized under the Federal Food Plant. It was rationed primarily for canteen drinks and preserved foods, stripped of ritual significance.
