STARRY MIRROR
- Type: (Frozen Mountain) Lake
- Location: High passes of the Bilu Oruzi Mountains, northeastern Ralar Region
Overview
Starry Mirror is a frozen lake nestled deep within the upper slopes of the Bilu Oruzi Mountains, located in the far northeast of the Ralar Region on the Dark Side of VOI 700 D. Measuring approximately 268 meters in length and 150 meters in width, the lake is entirely frozen year-round. On clear nights, its crystalline surface reflects the stars of the eternal night sky with breathtaking clarity, lending the site its name and spiritual reputation.
Long revered by the Native Tribes, Starry Mirror is considered one of the most sacred locations on the planet. The lake is the ceremonial site of the annual Lakira Shime, a deeply spiritual gathering involving all six great tribes.
Local Climatic Conditions, Geography and Landscape
Starry Mirror is encircled by steep ice cliffs and jagged peaks, with terrain shaped by intense tectonic pressure and glacial erosion. It lies at an extreme altitude, subjected to some of the harshest weather on VOI 700 D. Access is only possible during rare windows of relative calm.
Weather Patterns:
- Temperatures between -50°C and -70°C
- Frequent magnetic and electrical storms
- Sudden whiteouts and frostquakes
- Exceptional visibility of the night sky on clear nights
Local Flora
Due to its high altitude, frozen water and lack of geothermal activity, there is no documented flora at the lake itself. The surrounding cliffs and ridgelines also show no signs of vegetation.
Local Fauna
No fauna have been documented at Starry Mirror. The lake’s total lack of vegetation and freezing temperatures make survival nearly impossible.
Local Population and Settlement History
Native Presence
Starry Mirror holds immense spiritual significance for the Native Tribes. Each cycle, it hosts the Lakira Shime, a sacred ritual involving the consumption of psychoactive soup brewed from the Luminofera dualis (Shika Me La). The ceremony is believed to align tribal leaders with the spiritual will of the planet and serves as a compass for tribal decisions in the following year.
The summit of Starry Mirror is considered forbidden ground for outsiders during the ritual, and its traditions are protected by sacred codes among the tribes.
Exohuman Exploration
Prior to the restrictions of the Peace Treaty in the Gamma Age, a single exohuman expedition from the Free State of Settlers explored Starry Mirror in the Beta Age. The team reported strange anomalies beneath the ice:
- Signs of a possible landing site – symmetrical scorches resembling retro-thruster burns
- Subglacial formations – a narrow shaft and a chamber with artificial geometric features
Due to extreme weather and lack of proper equipment, no further investigation took place. These findings remain unverified.
Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
Starry Mirror offers a unique blend of mysticism and ancient secrets. The annual Lakira Shime can serve as a moment of deep character immersion or narrative divergence. Dungeon Masters may play with psychological elements, spiritual visions, and mysteries hidden beneath the lake.
Its isolation and cultural importance make it an ideal setting for forbidden discoveries, diplomatic standoffs, or supernatural encounters — especially in the Gamma Age, when tensions and restrictions are at their peak.
Adventure Hooks – Beta Age:
- “Frozen Secrets” – Players accompany an Exohuman explorer to verify rumored alien structures beneath Starry Mirror before the Peace Treaty shuts down access for good. What they find may rewrite the history of human settlement.
Adventure Hooks – Gamma Age:
- “The Blood Ceremony” – A tribal ritual at Starry Mirror ends in a massacre. The only surviving witness — a young Native — claims the attackers were Exohumans, mad and cannibalistic. The Federal Sheriff dispatches the players to investigate. What they uncover could shatter the fragile peace — or confirm terrifying rumors of outlaw cults in the mountains.
