LAND ALLOCATION OFFICE OF THE FREE STATE

Overview

  • Founding Date: May 1, 2625
  • Dissolution Date: June 17, 2629 (officially dissolved by the Federal Confederation in 2631)
  • Headquarters: New Kourou (Eastern Civic Ring)

The Land Allocation Office was one of the first institutions established by the Free State of Settlers following the crash landing of the Last Frontier. Founded on May 1, 2625, it oversaw the distribution of land and property claims across the Asari Region of VOI 700 D. Its creation marked a critical step toward transforming the settler population from survivors into landholding citizens.

The office remained operational until June 17, 2629, when it was shut down following the outbreak of the Great War. It was never reopened. The newly founded Federal Confederation formally dissolved the institution during its first official assembly in 2631, as the new political order rejected the concept of private property for ExoHumans.

History

Early Beta Age (2625–2627)

The Land Allocation Office was established to translate democratic values into structured colonization. Every adult settler could claim 65 hectares of land if they committed to farming for ten years. Land assignments were awarded through public lotteries held every third Thursday.

To ensure accessibility and protection under the law, land was only distributed within the Asari Region of the Habitual Belt — the region where all major ExoHuman settlements (except of Firetown in the Ralar Region), including New Kourou, Hope, and Morningstar, were founded. Settlers were encouraged to remain within range of Free State infrastructure and law enforcement.

Height of Activity (2627–2629)

As the settler population grew and exploration teams charted new territories, the office saw a surge in activity. Land claims peaked in 2627 and began to stabilize by mid-2628. The office also managed the mandatory agricultural skills test required to qualify for farming claims and maintained the central land archive.

However, growing tensions with Native Tribes and internal political unrest led to declining public trust. By early 2629, the Land Allocation Office operated under heightened security and increasing scrutiny.

Closure and Dissolution

On June 17, 2629, the Great War erupted. The office was closed immediately, and many staff members either joined the Volunteer Army of Man or were reassigned to emergency services. After the war, the Peace Treaty redefined ExoHuman rights on VOI 700 D. Private property was abolished. ExoHumans were declared temporary guests on the planet and confined to designated zones.

The Land Allocation Office, rooted in settler autonomy and property rights, had no place in the new order. Its functions were not resumed, and the Federal Confederation officially dissolved the institution in 2631.
