KUHL FUNERAL HOME
Overview
- Location: Public Services Ring, Morningstar
- Address: SE Frontier Avenue 3
- Surroundings: Adjacent to the Saw's End.
Founded in September 2626 by Maris Kuhl, this modest parlor was Morningstar’s first and only dedicated funeral home. Embracing the Beta Age’s soil-burial rites, Kuhl Funeral Home crafts coffins made of tropical hardwoods, prepares bodies with gentle botanical tinctures, and off-loads each procession to Mistfall Rest Cemetery via a black Hoo-drawn hearse—honoring the ex-soldiers and pioneers who gave their lives under the perpetual mist of the Atrana foothills.
Architectural Significance
- Construction Material: Locally milled tropical hardwoods, river-stone plinths, and salvaged shuttle-canopy glass for windows
- Floors: 1 main floor + small loft storage
- Design Purpose: Blend frontier pragmatism with solemn grace—heavy timber frames echo mountain lodges, while smooth stone floors and soft-glass clerestories impart quiet dignity

- Body-Prep Suite: Wash basin, herbal-tincture stations, and stasis-mat hookups scavenged from Arrival Bay
- Restroom: Simple composting loo with privacy curtain
Loft Storage
- Stock: Spare coffin lids, folded shrouds, bundles of Mirel Leaf incense
Exterior Yard (rear)
- Hoo Stable: Two-stall wood shelter with feed troughs and rain-catch drums for hoofed hearse steed
- Cart Port: Lean-to housing the black coffin cart, harness racks, and basic tool chest
Look and Feel
Inside, the scent of fresh-sawn pine mingles with faint Mirel Leaf incense and cool mountain mist wafting through open glass panes. Soft, ambient flute music—drawn from local cartridge players—drifts across polished stone floors. Afternoon light slants through dusty beams, illuminating the warm grain of timber pillars and the quiet solemnity of the viewing chambers. Outside, the Hoo-cart’s lantern glimmer contrasts the evergreen gloom, signaling the next procession toward Mistfall Rest.
