HEADQUARTERS OF THE TRADE GUILD OF NEW KOUROU
Overview
- Location: Public Services Ring, New Kourou
- Address: SE Thoreau Road 3
- Surroundings: Positioned adjacent to the Courier Station of New Kourou, at the heart of the city's bustling economic zone.
The Trade Guild of New Kourou was the most powerful Trade Guild within the Free State of Settlers, acting as a stabilizing force in an otherwise volatile frontier economy. Consisting of local merchants, supraregional trade organizations, and entrepreneurs, the guild regulated commerce, maintained supply chain stability, and organized trade logistics — including operating its own Courier Service.
Although not an official government body, the Trade Guild held immense social and political influence, often regarded by settlers as the real leadership of the Free State of Settlers. Guild members commanded public trust far more than politicians or former government figures.
The Headquarters operated until 2631, when the founding of the Federal Confederation and the introduction of Communardism led to the abolition of private trade and entrepreneurship. The Trade Guild was disbanded, and the building was repurposed.
In 2632, the Headquarters — along with the adjacent Courier Station — was rebuilt as the Headquarters of the Federal Courier Service, a state-run logistics and postal authority under the new federal system.
Architectural Significance
- Construction Material: Reinforced alloy frames with smooth polymer façade plates salvaged and adapted from colonial cargo pods.
- Floors: 3
- Design Purpose: Built to project professionalism, openness, and technological optimism, while providing flexible event space and secure administrative areas.
The building’s modest but polished design reflected the Trade Guild’s philosophy: transparency in commerce, strength in unity.
Building Structure
Ground Floor:
- Representative Welcome Desk: Operated by an unarmed Butler Bot, which greeted visitors, logged entries, and issued guest passes.
- Exhibition Area: Featured painted murals illustrating the evolution of humanity through trade. Hosted temporary exhibitions showcasing discoveries on VOI 700 D or new products launched by guild members. Served as the backdrop for press conferences held after monthly meetings.
- Restroom Facilities: Equipped with the efficient AuroraSan System — an advanced water-saving and sanitation setup.
Second Floor:
Meeting Rooms: Reserved for monthly Trade Guild meetings, negotiation sessions, and internal deliberations among merchant members.
Third Floor:
- Chairman’s Office: Private office of the elected chairman of the Trade Guild.
- Administrative Offices: Workspaces for secretaries, logistics coordinators, and communications staff.
Look and Feel
The Trade Guild Headquarters radiated ambition and professionalism. Light, neutral tones dominated the lobby, with metallic highlights and glass-paneled walls offering glimpses into curated exhibition areas. Settlers visiting for trade negotiations or exhibitions were greeted by soft lighting, the faint whir of the Butler Bot at the desk, and inspirational quotes about human resilience and trade etched into metal plaques.
During press days, the atmosphere shifted: journalists and settlers crowded the lobby as the chairman’s voice echoed over polished floors, carrying news of new expeditions, market developments, or key trade alliances.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
The Trade Guild Headquarters is ideal for political intrigue, economic sabotage, or information heists. It can serve as:
- A hub for overhearing secret pacts between settlers and off-world merchants.
- A target for radical factions opposed to capitalism even before Communardism.
- The final public stage for a major NPC merchant family before their downfall in the Gamma Age.
A location where players must recover — or erase — a crucial trade document before the Confederation shuts it all down.
