ZAILA VEENYO: THE ETERNAL BOOK OF THE HONGA TRIBE

The Zaila Veenyo (Eternal Book) is an important artifact of the Honga culture. It serves the tribe as a reminder of the history experienced and continues to be written by each generation. Responsible for the continuation of the Eternal Book is the respective Spiritual Leader of the Honga.

The material nature of the eternal book

The pages of the Eternal Book are made by the Honga in a traditional way: The Honga use grasses from the user of Lake Arla, which is sacred to them, and then cut them into small pieces. Then (after a few hours) they are soaked in water of Lake Arla and mashed into a pulp. This pulp is then spread out and dried to form a paper-like substance. The pages of the book are held together by two long grasses that bind the book.

For the production of the ink, the Honga use berries from the bushes along the way of their so-called “Shai Zaong” (Cycle of Life), as that eternal migration on which the Honga are in the Habitual Belt.

The pen with which the Spiritual Leaders write, comes from the “beginning of time”; from the feather of an Aar, the most powerful bird in the Habitual Belt.

Known and important entries in the Eternal Book

On the tidal lock of VOI 700 D by the Zonko (“Gods” in the Honga language):

  • The gods came to punish us
  • Because we had strayed from the journey
  • Stopped and rested - and became greedy
  • Because we wanted to have and could not give more
  • Therefore they took away what we wanted to possess and left us only a little green and light. So that we again value and honor what we wanted to subjugate ourselves

On the landing of humans in 2625 on VOI 700 D:

  • They fell from the sky like a burning star
  • Some thought the gods were coming back. But they only looked like them * and knew nothing about everything
  • Instead, they cried and needed our aid
