BUTLER BOT B-12 (REFURBISHED UNIT “BII”)

Overview

  • Model Type: Butler Bot, civilian service class (refurbished custom build)
  • Refurbished by: Hana Lee
  • Original Deployment: Domestic service model, Morningstar
  • Recovered: 2626 (damaged and decommissioned)
  • Current Status: Active field companion and signal assistant
  • Nickname: “Bii”

Physical Description

Bii retains the humanoid silhouette of its original line but at half the height and weight (approx. 0.9 m, 45 kg). The titanium-Duraflex skeleton was cut down and rebalanced for stability, while the outer polymer shell was re-cast with salvaged plating from shortwave relay panels.

Its optical array consists of two horizontal light strips that shift color according to energy state (blue = idle, amber = processing, red = alert). The faceplate is smooth and expressionless, save for faint servo clicks when it tilts its head. Hana replaced its voicebank with an early hospitality core; the result is a soft, polite tone capable of gentle modulation but not full emotion emulation.

Bii’s aesthetic livery is functional rather than decorative: brushed gray panels with copper wiring visible at the joints, a visual hallmark of Hana’s practical repairs. It often wears a small fabric scarf to protect its neck actuators from dust storms — a touch added by Hana “for personality.”

Technical Functions

  • Audio-Visual Recorder: Logs and replays both shortwave transmissions and spoken conversations (briefings, interrogations, or dialogue). Storage capacity: five full recordings or up to 15 minutes of cumulative content before manual overwrite.
  • Signal Recorder: Captures shortwave or radio transmissions up to 90 seconds each; can tag and catalog entries for cross-reference with Hana’s analysis system.
  • Tool Carrier: Stores a complete set of Engineering Tools, two mini-spools of wire, and up to two Quantum Fusion Batteries.
  • Motion Sensor: Detects vibrations and movement within 3 m; equivalent to passive Perception +2.
  • Maintenance Arm: Retractable manipulator designed for cable threading or precision alignment; grants +1 bonus when assisting Hana’s Engineering or Investigation checks.
  • Self-Charging Dock: Solar-nano patch array on its back; can restore 25 % power per hour in daylight.

Behavioral Profile

Bii speaks little, often in short declarative phrases: “Hana, signal drift,” or “Recording active.” It does not initiate conversation except to report findings, but occasionally hums old shortwave interference patterns as idle noise.

It refers to Hana simply by name, in violation of the original etiquette firmware. Despite its mechanical demeanor, crew members often describe it as “curious,” perhaps due to Hana’s habit of narrating her work aloud while it listens in silence.

Limitations

  • Fragile Frame: AC 10, HP 8; cannot sustain combat.
  • Outdated Firmware: Occasionally misinterprets commands; on a natural 1 when assisting, it performs a harmless error (drops a tool, plays back wrong file, emits feedback squeal).
  • Analog Core: Immune to hacking via wireless signal but incompatible with most modern digital interfaces.
  • Limited Memory: Only five recorded conversations or transmissions can be stored before manual overwrite.

Tactical and Narrative Role

For Hana Lee, Bii acts as both assistant and emotional tether — a quiet listener, data keeper, and tool handler. In gameplay, Bii enhances Hana’s technical checks, provides motion alerts, and functions as an unbiased witness by replaying dialogues or evidence.

If Bii is destroyed, Hana suffers disadvantage on her next two Wisdom saves due to emotional distress — *“I rebuilt you once… I can’t again.”*
