ORLANDA RIVER

Overview

The Orlanda River is a short but significant waterway flowing 40 kilometers from its source in the Atrana Mountains to its terminus in Lake Orlanda. Despite its limited length, the river is steeped in cultural and ecological importance, serving as a natural boundary and spiritual landmark for the Orlanda Tribe.

While its name might suggest a connection to the Orlanda Marshes, these wetlands are located 30 kilometers to the north and are unrelated to the river. The Orlanda Tribe named the river to mark the southern boundary of their territory, emphasizing its significance in their cultural heritage. As the Orlanda proverb states: “Who lives on the other shore of the Orlanda is not an Orlanda anymore.”

Climatic Conditions, Geography and Landscape

Flora

All known observations of the Orlanda River’s plant life were made during early Beta Age expeditions. Due to the cultural restrictions and protections of the Peace Treaty, no further biological research of Exohumans has been permitted

Fauna

Exohuman understanding of the Orlanda River’s fauna is limited. Most species were identified through early expeditions and cultural storytelling shared by the Orlanda Tribe.

Exohuman Presence and Restrictions

While early Exohuman surveyors mapped the Orlanda River during the Beta Age, they did not establish permanent settlements due to Orlanda resistance and the area's spiritual protection status. After the Great War, the Peace Treaty solidified the Orlanda's exclusive stewardship over the river.

These policies are enforced by tribal guardians with oversight by the Permanent Supervisor and monitored in cooperation with the Federal Confederation.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

The Orlanda River, though short in length, carries immense symbolic weight in the Eastern Equatorial Section. It serves as a fiercely protected spiritual boundary for the Orlanda Tribe and represents one of the most sensitive border zones within Asari. Adventuring here often involves navigating layers of taboo, tribal law, and ecological preservation, with the added tension of post-war mistrust toward Exohuman presence. The river's limited access and cultural weight make it a powerful narrative tool for stories of diplomacy, investigation, or spiritual transformation.

The Orlanda River is best used as a symbolic and cultural boundary. Its spiritual relevance and contested political status make it ideal for storylines involving border conflict, diplomacy, stealth infiltration, or sacred rites.
