+===== Background =====
-==== Role in the Jane Mendoza Gang ====
+Zhang Langley was born aboard the Last Frontier to a culturally diverse family with Chinese and Canadian roots. Both of his parents were medical researchers who introduced him to chemistry from a young age. Following the landing on [[the_planet_voi_700_d|VOI 700 D]], Zhang’s parents were assigned land to found a farm, where he worked with his father on experimental chemical solutions to enhance crop yields. Tragically, one such experiment went awry, resulting in a chemical explosion that cost Zhang all his fingers.
-Zhang runs the Drug Operations for the gang, overseeing a network of hidden labs and distributors. His influence has grown due to the significant wealth his operations generate, but he prefers to remain in the background, focused on expanding his empire. Zhang’s success is built on a well-guarded supply chain, with key hubs located on the Dark Side.
+Exempted from military service due to his injury, Zhang contributed to the [[great_war|Great War]] effort as a chemist, producing essential agricultural chemicals. After the war, Zhang began an independent drug operation, utilizing his chemistry skills to manufacture narcotics like [[frostbite|Frostbite]] (which he invented). His small but lucrative business in the Hope Region caught the attention of [[jane_bold|Jane Mendoza]] in 2635. Recognizing Zhang’s potential, Jane offered him a position within the gang rather than eliminating him as a rival. Since then, Zhang has overseen the gang’s drug production, refining operations to maximize efficiency and profit.
