KAJANGA
Overview
The Kajanga is a semi-aquatic amphibian-fish hybrid native to the Ralar Region of the Dark Side of VOI 700 D.
These creatures inhabit the volcanic shores of the Dark Sea Region, where geothermal warmth from Volcano Ralar provides a rare habitable zone in the otherwise frigid and lightless Dark Side.
Unlike most creatures adapted to eternal darkness, Kajangas possess large, dark eyes, which appear functionally useless in their environment. They navigate blindly, making them vulnerable prey for apex predators such as the Korozo.
Despite their awkward adaptation, Kajangas are resilient survivors, thriving in underwater cave systems along the Dark Sea's coastline. Some Kajangas migrate beyond the Dark Side, becoming symbols of luck among certain Native Tribes in the Asari Region.

Special Features:
- Incomplete Evolution: Appears to be in an unfinished evolutionary transition between aquatic and terrestrial life.

- Social Structure: Travels in loose, scattered groups but does not form strong social bonds.
Survival Strategies:
- Aquatic Safety: Prefers to stay submerged in warm volcanic waters where predators are scarce.
- Erratic Land Movement: Moves awkwardly on land, making sudden erratic jumps when startled.
- Thermal Refuge: Stays near lava flows, avoiding colder areas where predators are more common.
Reproduction and Lifecycle
Reproductive Traits:
- Egg Laying: Unlike most amphibians, Kajangas lay fertilized eggs in salt water, an unusual adaptation for amphibians.Female Kajangas lay their eggs in underwater caves at the shore of the Dark Sea near Volcano Ralar, where geothermal warmth protects the eggs from extreme cold.
- Hatchling Stage: Eggs hatch into tadpole-like larvae, which remain fully aquatic for 4-5 months.
- Metamorphosis: Develops four limbs and emerges onto land, although it retains fish-like movement patterns in water.
Lifespan and Growth:
- Maturity: Reaches adulthood at 3 years.
- Lifespan: 100+ years, making them one of the longest-living amphibian-like species on VOI 700 D.
Cultural Significance Among Native Tribes
Some Native Tribes in the Habitual Belt revere Kajangas as lucky charms, believing that having a Kajanga voluntarily follow you brings great fortune. These beliefs reinforce their cultural role, ensuring that Kajangas are respected and protected rather than hunted.
Ritual of the Kajanga Companion:
- Coming-of-Age Ceremony: Young tribespeople venture into the Dark Side, searching for Kajangas.
- Food Offering: They attempt to lure a Kajanga back with food.
- Symbol of Luck: If a Kajanga chooses to follow them back to the Habitual Belt, it is seen as a blessing of the spirits.
Adaptation in the Habitual Belt:
- Transformation: Once in the Habitual Belt, Kajangas regain full use of their eyesight, reinforcing the belief that they were never meant to live in darkness.
Myths and Legends About the Kajanga
Due to their unfinished evolutionary traits and unique eyes, many Native Tribes believe that the Kajanga were placed on VOI 700 D by alien gods.
- The Guardian Creatures: According to legend, the Kajanga were created by celestial beings as watchers over the tribes, guiding them through times of uncertainty.
- Tested by God(s): Their inability to see on the Dark Side is considered a test of their patience and wisdom, forcing them to rely on faith rather than sight.
