Background
Jareth Wyrick was never meant to exist. Born without a name in the maintenance strata of the Last Frontier, he was known only as “7” — a designation, not an identity. He was one of the Blues, descendants of stowaways who survived four generations hidden inside service decks, vents, and disposal corridors. They were unregistered, unseen, and unacknowledged by GAIA and the Starship Council alike.
For 44 years, he lived between pipes and shadows. On 24 March 2625 — Day Zero — the Last Frontier crash-landed on VOI 700 D. In the chaos that followed, firestorms, missing passengers, and collapsing authority, 7 slipped into the world of the registered.
Two days after the crash, while scouting the tropical forest near what would later become New Kourou, he found a corpse. The man was his age. Shot cleanly through the forehead. His name: Jareth Wyrick. His status: Legal passenger. Registered. Alive — on paper.
7 took the body’s documents. Then he made the theft permanent. To erase any trace of his original face, he burned himself — deliberately and brutally — destroying features that could ever betray him. To erase his voice, he chose silence. From that day forward, he communicated only through writing. With burned skin and stolen papers, he registered himself as a survivor.
Jareth Wyrick was re-born.
Roles by Ages
Beta Age
- Hunter & Landholder (post-2625): Registered a land claim with the Land Allocation Office of the Free State of Settlers and established an enclosed hunting estate in previously unassigned territory.
- Fur Baron: Built a profitable fur operation through ruthless efficiency, territorial control, and intimidation.
- Shadow Leader of the Blues: Quietly absorbed surviving Blues into his domain as Hands, Trappers, and assistants — keeping them hidden, dependent, and silent.
Personality
- Traits: Controlled, calculating, patient.
- Behavior: Observes more than he acts. When he intervenes, it is deliberate and final. He does not raise his voice, posture, or threaten — he expects compliance.
- Values: Absolute control over his domain, secrecy, usefulness. Loyalty is rewarded with protection. Disloyalty is erased.
Jareth’s silence is not weakness. It is a tool. By refusing to speak, he denies others the ability to read tone, intent, or hesitation. Every interaction is shaped on his terms, through written words he can revise, keep, or destroy.
Physical Attributes
- Height: 1.90 m
- Weight: 98 kg
- Appearance: Tall, broad-shouldered, and physically imposing. Jareth moves with the quiet certainty of someone used to being obeyed. His clothing is purely functional — a thick, hand-knitted wool pullover, rugged cargo trousers, and heavy boots worn by years of use rather than neglect.
- Mask: Jareth wears a partial, utilitarian mask that conceals most of his face. It is not ceremonial or decorative, but improvised and practical — darkened leather reinforced with stitched fabric and thin metal brackets. The mask covers the upper half and one side of his face, leaving parts of the jaw and mouth visible. It is clearly designed to hide severe past injuries rather than to intimidate.
- Burn Scars: Where skin is visible around the edges of the mask, old burn scars are evident — tight, uneven, discolored flesh pulled taut by healing. The damage suggests deliberate self-inflicted injury rather than an accident. His facial features remain recognizably human — eyes, nose, mouth — but no longer arranged as they should be.
- Eyes: One eye is fully visible and sharply focused. The other is partially obscured by the mask or shadow. His gaze is steady, cold, and intelligent — never angry, never expressive.
- Voice: Jareth does not speak in public. Whether by choice, habit, or calculated discipline remains unclear. He communicates exclusively through handwritten notes.
Combat Statistics
Jareth avoids combat whenever possible. When violence occurs, it is decisive and terminal.
- Armor Class (AC): 16 (situational awareness, controlled posture)
- Hit Points (HP): 45
Actions
- Close-Range Execution (Melee): +6 to hit; hit 2d6+4 bludgeoning or piercing (improvised tools, controlled force).
- Command Kill: Once per encounter, Jareth may silently signal a nearby Hand or Trapper to act immediately out of initiative order.
Special Abilities
- Procedural Authority: Enemies attempting Insight, Deception, or Intimidation checks against Jareth do so at disadvantage unless they offer information or leverage he considers useful.
- Erasure: Jareth has advantage on all checks related to intimidation, coercion, or silencing witnesses when operating on his own land.
- Written Judgment: Any decision Jareth writes down is final. Changing it requires extraordinary narrative leverage.
Motivations and Goals
Jareth’s primary goal is control without exposure.
He seeks wealth through fur hunting, land ownership, and enforced discretion, but avoids political power or public visibility. Institutions of the Free State of Settlers are tools to be used selectively — never trusted, never invited beyond necessity.
He integrates other Blues into his domain not out of mercy, but strategy. Their shared past is both bond and leverage. He offers them protection, purpose, and survival — but only as long as they obey his rules. Those who threaten his identity, his land, or his authority are removed without hesitation.
People die when they become a problem.
Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
Jareth Wyrick works best as:
- A Silent Authority: He should never shout, threaten, or monologue. His presence alone should shift the tone of the room.
- A Controlled Interrogator: He asks questions he already suspects the answers to. He will not answer questions unless it benefits him.
- A Masked Truth: The mask is not meant to be dramatic — it is practical, unsettling, and symbolic of his stolen identity.
- A Predator Who Waits: Jareth does not rush decisions. If violence occurs, it is because he has already decided it was inevitable.
