FEDERAL HOSTEL AND SALOON OF NEW KOUROU

Overview

The Federal Hostel and Saloon (FHAS) of New Kourou is a dual-purpose institution combining accommodation for travelers with a regulated cultural hub for residents. It reflects the Federal Confederation’s emphasis on sustainability and equal access during the Gamma Age.

The FHAS facilities were established in 2633 under the Communard Government Administration of Supreme Councilor Aisha Patel. They were created to fulfill the requirements of the Peace Treaty, emphasizing reduced energy consumption, resource conservation, and communal ownership. This system replaced the free-market pubs and hotels of the Beta Age, ensuring equitable access and standardized cultural spaces for all citizens of the Confederation.

Since 2634, the FHAS network has also served as part of the distribution system of the Weekly Gazette, giving citizens access to the Confederation’s official news medium alongside its cultural and social functions.

Architectural Significance

  • Construction Materials: Recycled alloy panels and bulkheads from the Last Frontier
  • Floors: Two-storey structure with hostel above, saloon and reception below
  • Design Purpose: Durable and functional, with space for communal activity and orderly access
  • Lighting: Candles and Luminofera Dualis provide a warm, subdued atmosphere

Building Structure

Ground Floor

  • Reception Area: Handles hostel check-ins and saloon slot bookings
  • Saloon: Cultural and social hall seating up to 80 guests per slot
  • Dining Room: No cooking; guests consume meals from the Federal Canteen or their Weekly Food Basket rations in a communal space

Second Floor

  • Shared Rooms: Two dormitories with 30 double beds each (capacity: 60 travelers)
  • Service & Maintenance Area: Storage, cleaning supplies, bedding, and staff break room

Look and Feel

The FHAS embodies pragmatism and community: patched alloy walls, simple wooden furniture, and posters of cultural events. The saloon hums with music or cabaret, while the hostel dormitories are orderly, austere, and efficient.
