  • Type: Social · Investigation · Rumors · Low Risk

2 | Read-Aloud Descriptions

Initial Read-Aloud (Scene Opening)

The Firetown Darts Club is a squat, single-story block of volcanic stone patched with old ship panels. Two open-fire barrels burn on either side of the entrance, throwing restless orange light across a flickering neon dart on the canopy. The sign hums softly — half alive, half dying.

A handwritten note hangs crookedly on the door:

“Because some can’t lose, you all lose today. We are renovating Firetown Darts Club as some guys tried to challenge our bouncers… If you wanna have some fun, try our Billiards Saloon around the corner.”

The door is locked tight. No voices inside. Only the crackle of the fires and the hum of the neon tube above your heads. For a moment, nothing moves but the flicker of the fire barrels and the hum of the neon sign. The street feels strangely expectant, as if waiting to see what you’ll do next.

Staged Read-Alouds (Progressive Descriptions)

Trigger / Timing Read-Aloud Cue
If PCs haven’t met Lethabo Munkh yet A stumbling figure rounds the corner, swaying in the dim red glow of the neon lights. The fire barrels reflect in his glassy eyes as he mutters to himself, barely aware of your presence.
If PCs turn their heads and look around The rest of the Entertainment District flickers to life behind you — red, blue, and green neon tubes bursting through the dark. Signs for the Billiards Saloon, Saloon Gloria, and the Red Wheel pulse in the gloom, calling wanderers deeper into Firetown’s nightlife.

6 | DM Notes

  • Purpose of This Scene:
    1. Provide an alternative location for meeting Lethabo Munkh
    2. Ensure the PCs always have a path to Station intel about the Local Guarding Trooper Station
    3. Offer an organic reason to redirect players to the Billiards Saloon or another Hub location
  • When to Use Lethabo:
    1. Only if the PCs did not encounter him before (e.g, at the Red Wheel)
    2. If they already met him, the corner stays empty, and this is simply a “closed venue” scene
  • How to Play Munkh:
    1. Embarrassed, shoulders slumped
    2. Feels like he failed his pregnant wife in Hope
    3. Angry at the Cartel’s fake miner (“Dagg Rin… may he rot…” /check Scene 8 German Imbiss)
    4. Opens up easily once empathy or money is shown
    5. Relieved when PCs invite him elsewhere → gives him dignity back
  • What Munkh Can Provide:
    1. Soft gossip (free)
    2. Guard routines + layout (~150 K)
    3. 10-minute distraction (~300 K)
    4. Small emotional scenes if PCs take him somewhere to drink
  • Tone to Maintain:
    1. Cold street · frustration · a defeated Trooper looking for a way out
    2. Low danger, but high narrative value
