102 Pen and Paper Adventure | Beta Age | The Man Without a Name

SCENE 8g — FIRETOWN DARTS CLUB

1 | Scene Overview

  • Location: Firetown Darts Club · NE Public Services Ring Road 5, Firetown
  • Type: Social · Investigation · Rumors · Low Risk
  • Era: Beta Age
  • Tone: Cold street · closed doors · lingering tension

Atmosphere & Sensory Cues: Volcanic-stone walls radiating faint warmth · neon buzzing · torches crackling in metal barrels · faint smell of liquor and burnt wood · muffled wind sweeping along the street

2 | Read-Aloud Descriptions

Initial Read-Aloud (Scene Opening)

The Firetown Darts Club is a squat, single-story block of volcanic stone patched with old ship panels. Two open-fire barrels burn on either side of the entrance, throwing restless orange light across a flickering neon dart on the canopy. The sign hums softly — half alive, half dying.

A handwritten note hangs crookedly on the door:

“Because some can’t lose, you all lose today. We are renovating Firetown Darts Club as some guys tried to challenge our bouncers… If you wanna have some fun, try our Billiards Saloon around the corner.”

The door is locked tight. No voices inside. Only the crackle of the fires and the hum of the neon tube above your heads. For a moment, nothing moves but the flicker of the fire barrels and the hum of the neon sign. The street feels strangely expectant, as if waiting to see what you’ll do next.

Staged Read-Alouds (Progressive Descriptions)

Trigger / Timing Read-Aloud Cue
If PCs haven’t met Lethabo Munkh yet A stumbling figure rounds the corner, swaying in the dim red glow of the neon lights. The fire barrels reflect in his glassy eyes as he mutters to himself, barely aware of your presence.
If PCs turn their heads and look around The rest of the Entertainment District flickers to life behind you — red, blue, and green neon tubes bursting through the dark. Signs for the Billiards Saloon, Saloon Gloria, and the Red Wheel pulse in the gloom, calling wanderers deeper into Firetown’s nightlife.

6 | DM Notes

  • Purpose:

This scene exists to ensure the group always has a chance to meet Lethabo Munkh—even if they skipped or misplayed his appearance at the Red Wheel.

  • How to Play Munkh:
    1. Shame and fear sit heavier than the alcohol.
    2. His wife is pregnant in the Hope Region → he feels he failed her.
    3. He is defensive at first (“Not laughing at me, are you?”).
    4. Once the PCs show empathy or money, his bitterness melts into raw vulnerability.
  • What the PCs Can Learn:
    1. The Cartel uses a “fake miner” (Dagg Rin) to lure people into debt.
    2. The Guarding Trooper Station has predictable patterns:

· shift overlaps

     · the strict **17:00 Circle Walk**
     · specific guards who slack off or sleep
  - With enough Kourou, he will provide:
     · verbal layout
     · weak spots
     · and at the highest tier, a **10-minute “blind spot” distraction** during Scene 9.
  • Tone:

Cold street corner · guilt · desperation · Firetown’s human cost.
